I don't think it's been abandoned quite yet. In fact we just got some news today about Season 1 and the game economy.
The reason I keep saying it's been abandoned is because no sane developer releases bug fixes 5 months after release with radio silence that lasts for months. The immediate month or two is a critical time for all hands to fix their list of 1000+ bugs.
I created this post before seeing their new economy blog post, which is a very good sign. It boggles my mind that both BFV and BF2042 were launched as live service games and needs continuous revenue to justify a live service dev team, yet both launched without a functioning ingame marketplace and purchasable content. Cosmetic content is the cheapest to produce and generates the most profit. It is one of the few places where more headcount can be thrown at to produce more content and to have a guaranteed return on investment. Both games only introduced their stores more than half a year later when most of the player base is gone. This kind of planning IS INSANE!
- RMEChief4 years agoLegend@StormtrooperDan planning? That went out the door after the first bad quarter. There has been zero new content developed since December. At this point all they are doing are bug fixes and cosmetic changes.

You know, the cosmetic stuff were probably ready months ago.
Unlike other content cosmetics need a lot less testing.
- 4 years ago@StormtrooperDan Battlefield v had bug fixes in release notes for well after a year of release!

To me it is sickening that we are only getting a total of 11 BF2042 maps which is basically half of any other recent BF title. What makes matters worse is the current 7, for the most part, are terrible BF maps.
I would never have pre-order or bought this game with such little content provided. The assumption is when you pay full price that you are expecting close to the same level of content. Seems like a bait and switch.
- edgecrusherO04 years agoSeasoned Ace@Adamonic All this and no campaign, too! It's incredible how little MP content we got in return for them abandoning the campaign. AOW has less content than BF 1/V at launch, and seems like it'll get even less post-launch support than either game.
What a time to be alive!

Before the game even launched I created a post on how the devs should have handled the specialists: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Separating-skins-and-abilities-will-solve-problems-and-generate/m-p/10880357
However my clan and I have played tens of thousands of hours of previous battlefield games and sank a good amount of time in this one and we don't mind the specialists at all. Complains like enemy identification and lack of teamwork are really non-issues. Teammates have friendly UI indicators and any silhouette without the indicators are enemies. Sure you can identify classes and team based on visuals is a thing in previous games, but those instances are the minority. Team players will be team players and solo players will be solo players regardless of class/specialist.
For us the biggest pain point of the game was the vehicles and design
1. Vehicles completely dominated the game.
2. Destroying vehicles made no difference because they spawned right away.
3. Anti-air vehicle gameplay is boring, it is mostly a keep away guard duty job as most air vehicles are get in and out without dying. Most of the time, anti-air is about minimalizing the amount of time the enemy air can staying in your air space.
4. Lack of transports when you need to go long distance. Call-ins are taken and lack of spawned transports.
Back in previous battlefields vehicles were few but important, and if you lost one it was a big blow to the team.
I think the flaw of vehicle design basically came down to this: DICE created a game where 25% of players are super soldiers and 75% of players are peasants, and those 75% of peasants are mowed down over and over again by super soldiers in every match. A game like that is not going go last long at all, and I do believe that's the main reason people stopped playing.
