Don't get us wrong, there are cheaters but the netcode in this game is one of the worse of any of the BF games causing lots of what the hell moments.- RaginSam2 years agoSeasoned Ace

Don't get us wrong, there are cheaters but the netcode in this game is one of the worse of any of the BF games causing lots of what the hell moments.Which BF game or modern game outside of an Esport title has good net code? Every game is trying to reach the largest audience possible, which means trying to find some balance where everyone is happy… obviously it’s not really working. It does seem to make them money though unfortunately. I’ve always found myself complaining and feeling like a lot of guns fights felt unfair in BF games.
The problem is when games like Apex try to split the difference between someone with low latency versus another player with higher ping. The person with the worse connection inherently has more fluctuation, which then make things feel even more inconsistent and unpredictable. I suspect Dice and BF games share a similar mentality.
Depending on the distance of players, the tick rate changes as well I think. You often see people in the distance moving erratically and faster then what should be possible.
There was a time when Arena shooters tried to innovate and make things more fair. You wanted to get your latency within a certain parameter to get the best performance. Even with a larger scale game like BF I think there’s room for improvement and they could try to implement something similar to that idea. There’s no push from us the consumer though.
Disclaimer: Most of that is from memory from when I looked up information on the topic. So I could be off a bit on some of that. The Apex thing however is 100% accurate though, straight from the Devs.
- Col_Larsen2 years agoNew Ace@ATFGunr Hi - agree 100 %. I will not deny - there are most likely cheaters here also - but my take is - as you say - network and lag is the thing. One game you get killed instantly all the time - before you even think about pushing mousebutton - next game you own everyone and start thinking - soon someone reports you for cheating - and then next game again - back with delay. Dice need to have ping limits on servers !!
Not sure how they can beat the vpn thing - someone from Japan could dial in to a vpn jump spot in Europe and from there join Europe game servers - game server will see low ping but tcp package travel will be crazy (at least that is what I have been told from someone).
One nice thing would be to be able to see other players ping towards server - like previous battlefield games. I know that BF 5 is unplayable if you have 20 ms and other players on server have 300 ms.
So delay / lag compensation is one thing - cheat is something else but compared to BF 5 - this game does not have much cheat going on !- RanzigeRidder22 years agoLegend
I'm on console and playing with crossplay off, but also there these issues happen. Suspect deaths where it seems like you are 1 shot killed, mostly caused by netcode issues. On consoles you might encounter players using a input device that allows scripts that will cancel recoil etc. but in general I appoint my suspicious deaths to netcode and sync.
I am a too mediocre player to get cheating accusations and I have the stats to back that up 🤨 Yet in BF2042 I did receive my first ever PS message of somebody accusing me of cheating. It turned out into an amusing conversation, where the ignorant mf did not want to believe me, regardless of me explaining it probably was a netcode issue. He was suggesting me using an input device to control recoil, but when I pointed out my stats don't back up such claim he still didn't cave in. I told him to report me if he was so convinced I was cheating, and then he turned the conversation into stat boasting. I told him I couldn't care less about those stats and play for fun, another argument for not having to use a mod device, but instead he kept on insulting and making fun of my stats vs his. Finally when I told him that now knowing I had killed such a "good" player and receiving cheat accusations for it was at the pinacle of fun for me, and if he was so obsessed with his stats he probably should spend less time on messaging random players and do some more stat padding he blocked me. Mission accomplished 🙌
