It's most likely this, to be honest.

There is no such thing as an auto melee in BF2042.

At least the Knife is an edged weapon and takes skill.  It has a severe weapon drop.  one has to target and theyre limited on number of attack.

Smooth Plastic on the other hand takes no aiming, has no skill associated with it, and kills instantly.

I have the same problem. And it’s not pushing too hard on the button or any of the nonsense that ppl have suggested. 

its legit someone pushes u etc and for no reason you pull a knife axe whatever the… 

im sure its a setting issue but im to lazy to go through the settings 😂

I hate it. I am going to sue if not removed from BF6 and 2042, when I get a heart attack.

I change knife buttons and it still comes out in proximity, using Xbox controllers.
