@Jorgeron1Tanks are obsolete in this game, They are big slow and cumbersome. There's just too much ordinace fying through the air at them. (thanks to specalist system) The terrain for majority of maps is too cluttered.
Now you have the Type-3 Phaser rifle And Galvertrons canon firing off light speed shots at armour. The G-84 which was hailed as an anti-air leveller is mearly a self guided javlin better at top down armour shots
Tanks are there for decoration imo
Not really.
I help to win back flags in conquest all the time.
I keep a safe distance from cluttered areas and watch over the flag area and will shell enemies in view or behind cover which helps my infantry teammates take the flag.
It's just never acknowledged in the stats but that's OK, I'm sure my teammates appreciate it.
On my own I can't take flags or defend them successfully so I wait for infantry support.
If infantry support doesn't arrive I abandon the flag and retreat to a safe distance.
Tanks are still strong as long as you develop tactics appropriate to the game.
If anything 2042 has raised the skill level for tanking.
I have to disagree it hasn't "raised the skill level" it's changed the way you have to use a tank, basically you're just a mobile spawn-point/artillery not an aggressive front-line fighting tool anymore. Just as you say you can't use them to capture flags anymore like you used to be able to in prior Battlefield games, or you'll get instantly deleted.
It has turned tankers into base and flag campers just as you have described in Conquest. Unless you're playing with a bunch of window-lickers who are drooling onto their own chest a tank shouldn't be a problem for more than a minute right now.
In Breakthrough it's even worse, I rarely see tanks venturing out of their own base in Breakthrough, let alone being used to push anymore and the second they do the missiles and rockets start flying.
If you're aggressive with them, they're pretty much paper tigers, the upcoming addition of APS may change that, but I don't think so, frankly at this point I don't what to do to fix them.

2042 forces tank mains to think far more tactically than previous modern battlefield games and you need to develop more skills to survive longer and still be effective.
That's my definition of raising the skill gap.
Aggressively rushing flags in BF4 is not skill, it's having a massive advantage of firepower and armour health and using brute force to take out weakly protected infantry who often had no anti tank equipment to fight back with.
Sure it was fun but it was also a very one sided fight.

Yet, and this is just about every game
Tanks just sit in one spot raining fire.
I was in a tank on Stranded and we never died. Know why? He kept moving. We got hit with 1 out of 10 missiles fired at us.
Moving increases your survival EXPONENTIALLY. I find most complaints from armor are from pilots who camp in one spot. That is your problem, not the design. Try moving.
EDIT: I must say, I do find it ironic that they complain how easy they are to kill, while easily killing all infantry around them.

Having an advantage of firepower and armor is the very thing that defines a "tank" isn't it?
As a former tanker, who is now a ground pounder for the most part, I think tanks are pretty useless in their current form, I barely give them a thought.
Infantry should fear a tank rolling in but right now they have little to no impact on the battlefield in Conquest if the opposing team even has an iota of intelligence or commonsense.
And in Breakthrough they are completely worthless because they know they never have to leave their home base to farm kills hunkered down behind Irish's sentinels and there is nothing that can be done about it.
Tanks vs. infantry should be one-sided because well it's a TANK, lol.

Nope. Not sure where youre getting your definitions

Most pilots who looking for the advantage you described feel that way. It is because of your misinterpretation of the definition.

Only infantry without means to deal with it.
And in Breakthrough they are completely worthless because they know they never have to leave their home base to farm kills hunkered down behind Irish's sentinels and there is nothing that can be done about it.
These are * pilots.

Im not sure where youre getting this info.
