Apparently it's suppose to allow for more destructions and better graphics. But, they seem to be using BF as a guinea pig as with BF 2042. EA and Dice don't care, I feel so sorry for the devs that work there.

Frostbite is still top-notch MP FPS engine. Basically one of the reason I still play 2024.

It has a good feeling when shooting, it's stable and things looks really great.

If you miss some destruction, it should be a design issue than an engine issue.

The problem is the game itself they made with the engine...

I'm pretty sure at least some of the issues we are seeing is from Frostbite's limitations. EA/DICE said, them self's that the reason they had to remove the stadium on Hourglass was too many assets on field. So, the engine has limitations, lack of cover, lack of destruction "Levelution" all are symptoms of these problems.

I think frostbite is decent. Frostbite makes it as bf we know. But since its very complicated one, it has been probably challenging for new devs. You could see in 2042 that difference. But time has passed and development has been upgraded/improvements has been made. Game looks and feels better now. What i mean, new bf might have better launch.

Edit: What also buggs me is, remember when dice introduced 128 players and skyscraper collapse/destruction demo video? I think after that something happened (some old devs left that might were pulling these keyfeatures) And we actually can see some part of destruction in The Finals as overall bfv movement feeling.

They had to restrict stuff due to last gen consoles. For some reason they wanted to make them compatible, which killed what was possible. Asset counts and physics like destruction are severely limited in last gen consoles compared to the current ones and PCs. They already said the next release will not support last gen consoles. With limited asset counts, maps are very bare.

Another way console cross play is ruining PC game play!

  • The frostbite engine does include how much destruction can be done. EA and Dice said it themselves. That with the new engine there can be more destruction, in which this type of destruction will alter the gameplay. For example, a whole building gets blown up and cannot cross a certain road that was there anymore. Or if tank shells hit the ground it can cause massive craters etc...I don't get why they would do this though. The destruction on 2042 is ok, could be improved a but not needing a whole new engine. With new engines comes new problems

Frostbite became obsolete 10 years ago. EA Sims Team is only capable of rebranding something not created by them. They think that's enough. Powerful business processes.
