I dont think it would because its more things to juggle in the middle of combat that arent combat related. BF isnt a sim. You hear a lock tone and you either flare or take cover.
The result of this proposed change to counter measures is either the player uses the correct ones and they get the same experience as current BF, or they use the wrong ones, and they are frustrated because of extra options for no good reason.
This would be like adding anti armor bullets and making them the only thing that works well against enemies using body armor. Its extra complexity in a fast paced arcade shooter that isnt needed. There's a reason nobody uses the anti armor rounds that are in the game.
- ATFGunr3 years agoLegend@SpudBug I think what Hawkeye is saying about the countermeasures is you would have to choose one. So if an IR missile is coming, and you have flares, you’re good. If it’s a radar missile, you’re boned. And vice versa. You’d only get one countermeasure as in past games. I think jets have the short end of the stick in 2042, while helos are coddled like crazy. A jet could maybe have choice but helos should be limited to duck and cover with only one CM available. This won’t really hurt the good pilots, but the choppie pilots who want to just hover and farm grunts will have to get much better.

I am not a fan of the air vehicle gameplay as infantry at the moment, but to increase the complexity of the counter measures through different missile types and different counter measures, I don't think the gameplay will benefit from it.
Guided weapons are a problem in general, they don't need skill, so they are either too effective or useless. There is not much in between.
So what I think would help, is gameplay, which is rewarding skill or Teamplay. And just one rocket, is not enough, more options would be great (something with more spread, but less damage for example, or something faster, something slower, fast firing, slow firing... There are plenty of options). Or if SOFLAM can't be countered so easy, or the tracer dart...
Ok the other hand, all these explosives are a problem, too, no vehicle player has to aim properly, as ,you just hit the ground with something and every infantry dies. Not fair, while I have to hit you pixel perfect with very limited amount of ammo and endless reload times.
I think this would probably helping the game, make it less noob friendly, more skill based.

Here is the problem. Modern era is the era of guided weapons.
So to work around that they need to add more non guided options that work.
The railgun rifle could had been one of them but then they nerfed it so that an entire team need to use it together to make it threatening to aircraft.I would be happy with some modern version of the flak cannon emplacements.
