I discovered this video that depicts the issues with Laser-Designation & Lock-ONs, which while is dated since game Launch, it is an accurate representation of the issues in 2042 compared to BF4

That's an excellent visualisation of some issues, good job finding that!
It's very telling that despite the age of the video the issue hasn't improved ...

It's a start but more issues are still present that we don't know if DICE knows about.- 3 years ago
I don't think that DICE will address the SOFLAM issue anytime. I don't know why but the general design direction seems, that vehicles have to be powerful and the SOFLAM would work against this as it would be a very effective tool to counter any vehicle.
I think it would be a good tool to counter vehicles, as it needs teamplay, so some sort of skill. It is not too easy to lock a target and through obstacles, the vehicle player can break it so there is a skill component to counter it (additional, active protection or flying under the radar helps).
As long as the flares break the lock on and the rockets itself, the SOFLAM is a useless tool. As it takes much too much time (first lock on of SOFLAM, then lock on of rocket launcher), additional the SOFLAM user will be marked for the vehicle player, so you are a very easy target. And even if anyone shots, the flares blocks everything.
In the actual state, SOFLAM is useless and DICE should know it. And they had plenty of time to change "anything" but didn't do it. So I doubt, they will now start to touch the balance of the vehicles, everything tells me, DICE is not interested in teamplay or to touch the balance infantry against vehicles, as vehicles have to feel powerful.

Yeah the teamplay aspect and even the awesome memories of using it in former titles makes it such an interesting gameplay mechanic.
And at least they did "start now" with fixing ^.^
So many possibilities could be opened up with not even that much tweaking (like mentioned in this thread already i.e. different damage models, rocket behaviour, lock-on quicker/through objects, etc.)

A start, but still something and after the patch we might be in for a treat seeing this!

Ok well spoken too soon ... we get so little XP it's ridiculous!
For example I get 22 XP for having lasered a killed target ... no matter how many people were inside!
That's the same as blocking 2 spots or 2 people running inside Blasco's Infiltration Device (!!!) or spotting just 2 enemies yourself (!!!).
Even a damage assist would be 110 XP and a headshot 44 XP, so double the points from something so irrelevant to reward, compared to putting yourself at risk for helping out your team with lasering ... an underappreciated task.
