The thermal scopes seem to work just as a filter instead they should grant to see through smoke grenades and other type of dust and be countered by raging fires.Also right now it just highlights the operator's skins and guns, because of that it is sometime difficult to distinguish the head from the rest of the body (espacially in foliage mimetic skins), instead it should be the model under the skin to be shown in a different color.

And since fire grenades is countered directly by smoke- thermal would ruin that balance. 3) That's not how thermal even works. What is the point of camoflage / guillie suit if can be countered by a scope anyone can equip?

first off you asking for thermals to see trough smokes is only going to encourage people to sit even further back with a sniper rifle and play "high contrast immersion gaming"... i can already imagine how horrible gameplay would feel on the more open maps with 10-25 people sitting somehwere in a bush with thermals and the railgun....secondly if DICE were to actually do this then they need to give everyone the option to add magnesium powder to their smokes as to make them appear like a white cloud to thermals... you know as a counter.in the end this will hopefully never happen because it will not add any value to the moment to moment gameplay.

@bevvoo thermals already see through smokes that are not caused by the players.They do not see through player made smoke for balancing purposes

@bevvoo With how flat the maps are, one can easily understand the decision to make thermals unable to see through smoke.After using thermals for a good bit, I am of the opinion that the decision is indeed a good decision as it allows smokes to remain useful. It also gives thermals a proper purpose instead of being a be all and end all replacement for standard scopes. It's great for target identification but they're not so great for target engagement and that's perfect.I am quite curious as to what raging fires you are talking about though.The only thermal sight that can see through smoke is Casper's drone and I think this is intentional, however he cannot spot in smoke which is also intentional.

Just want to echo that since June, smokes being able to work against thermals was a great decision balance wise.

THERMAL SCOPES should be able to see through SMOKES (and other adjustments)

Thermal scopes can see through smokes IRL, thermal scopes aren't just better (the visibility of the enviroment it is rather worse because everything it is grey, you can't see bullet drop, etc.).
I partially agree that fires is not that present as smokes.
Guillie suit is it still useful (BF i sandbox not a simulator btw), as I said above not everyone is going to use TS because it would not be a win-win solution anyway.
At least this is my personal opinion... hands up!

My personal opinion, DICE decided to just tease, please the mechanics and the foot soldier. What is the useful value of the NightBird thermal imager when it is available to the passenger? Why was it given to the NightBird, but not to the shooters of attack and stealth helicopters? They also did not give the opportunity to put instead of optics in the main gun of the tank, they were afraid that the tankers would bend the infantry like a BF4.
They did, but through one place, as they say.

I don't think that's the case, none use smokes as defence from far away snipers, smokes are used in very close mass fight situation (especially in narrow spots).
With thermals you can't see the bullet drop so I don't think they would be used for far away sniping (also the optics are very short sighted).
It would be nice for medium to close aggressive sniping which is what I personally enjoy...
Magnesium powder smokes would be actually very cool and it's a great idea for balancing (maybe they could cover a smaller area or last less time than the vanilla smokes).

Electronic Arts what the hell? Thermal Scopes cannot see through a smoke grenade?

Would've been cool if you tried to make Thermal Optics work realistically as opposed to your half assed solid grey BMP IMG you plaster on my scope.

Came back for the new patch. Leaving because of this.
