This Game Just Keeps Getting Worse! (Reshade/RTSS, GL Nerf, Server Pop.)

I eagerly anticipated sharing the joy and chaos of Battlefield with my friend. Little did I know that our experience would be far from the exciting showcase I had envisioned. Instead, we were met with a lackluster and frustrating encounter, all thanks to the latest update.

To my surprise,

  • Reshade is no longer functioning in the game.
  • RTSS is not working either.
  • Grenade launchers now only have one round per type. (Because, you know, why not just nerf guns and give everyone one magazine while you're at it?!)

Furthermore, Middle East servers -since launch- have been plagued with low population, severely limiting our gameplay options. Currently, we can only play Conquest since there are never enough players to start matches in other modes. This could easily be resolved by lowering the threshold to start a match. I mean, even if the players were ALL bots, we just want to be able to enjoy the game modes we love, for crying out loud.

In the end, my attempt to introduce my friend to Battlefield during the free weekend turned out to be a disappointing experience. The game failed to showcase in its best light, leaving me questioning the decisions made in the latest update and why the issue of low population hasn't been addressed yet.

  • @KNlGHTMAREDon't expect reshade to work in multiplayer games, particularly PvP/competitive ones. Unlike what others say, yes, reshade can make you play better and it can be used to cheat.
Games will often make smoke effects alpha blended, which means that they will not be visible in the depth buffer. If you were to look directly at the depth buffer (a basic test shader for reshade), you will be able to see through smoke. Even if you're not doing that, something like SSAO from within reshade will be applied after the smoke effects, making players behind smoke glow. Now, I dunno if this applies to 2042, since its smoke effects are quite advanced and modern games shy away from alpha blending, no CSGO smoke in front of chainlink fence shenanigans, but it is something to keep in mind. In any older games with smoke, if you added SSAO through reshade you would let's say ~90% of the time see through smoke.

For 2042 specifically, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some way for reshade to hook into whatever passes are used to remove smoke for infrared sights, which can be an issue. And yes, I know of the more multiplayer-friendly version of reshade.

There are other alternatives for performance monitoring. Presentmon still works. If you have an AMD or Nvidia GPU, you can also use the performance monitoring built into the driver. The game also has its own performance overlay, which you should probably use instead if you're planning on reporting bugs as it will be more informative for the devs. Go into the console, type perfoverlay and look at the autocomplete options.

The UGL nerf was mainly for Redacted. Either way, having 3 incendiary grenades was overpowered regardless of Redacted. You still have 2 AP grenades, having 1 of the other grenade types is fine, you can have multiple UGL types on a single gun still and will have a grenade for each.
