Bots are a very poor decision in my opinion in modern first person video games. Video games for the majority (non-content creators) are for entertainment purposes, and I don't know a ton of people who want to shoot bots over real players. It's one of the reasons why single player titles are in decline.
If someone does something spectacular, but then noticed it was a bot, that can ruin the core experience forever with that title, and it can lower retention. The player could second guess everything they do, to the point where they start to think everyone is a bot, then get killed by a real player just drives them to just leave the game altogether.
Bots are a fun concept to learn the basic skills with a new title, but never a good idea to mix them into the core experience like what DICE has done. Someone will argue it works for older titles in series like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142, but honestly how many people actually play those titles today.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point Battlefield 2042 gets the ability to disable bots. Also, EA should stop calling them A.I. because they're not. A.I. would be able to write it's own code, these bots can't do that.

It's not an agreement about what worked for titles in the past, but what will work today in video game entertainment. In my mind it's real players vs other real players.

DICE's reasoning for bots IMO is sound to fill a server and displace the bots each time a player joins and takes a slot. When I had my own BF3, BF4, and BF1 servers getting them started was often a challenge and one I see commented upon time and again by other server hosts. I really don't see a downside to having bots for this server fill mechanic. Perhaps those who object to bots under all circumstances can make a server without them in Portal?

Yeah I mostly see messages in my email, so I come check what was said, but I mostly stick to reddit as I find it superior.
Let's just agree to disagree. I think DICE made two wrong decisions regarding bots. One being adding bots in modern first person shooter, Second, the users can't disable them. Both are terrible ideas in my opinion.
I won't speak for others, but I would honestly take a half-full server knowing everyone was real over a full server with half bots.
I get some people might have had issues with filling servers in the past, but filling them with bots is not fixing the issue, it makes it worse. It makes it worse because it doesn't fix the underlying issue, filling servers
Want more people to play your game, make it a good game and people will just fill the rooms.- Jesse1654 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Popa2capsAnd I disagree with you completely.
Heck the AI Soldiers and Portal are the reasons I am getting the Ultimate Edition. Otherwise I wouldn't be spending a single cent towards this game and would have just waited for it to be added to EA Play like I did with Battlefields 1 and V.
The bots are needed to help fill servers until they are full (especially in low populated regions).
This was from a petition to add Offline Bot Matches to Battlefield 4 originally but it still applies here as well:
1) They allow a player to practice all of the game modes at any time with a full compliment of combatants. (With Portal we can have matches with up to 127 bots on ANY MAP AND MODE WHENEVER WE WANT !!!)
2) They allow for a full game without any lag, slowdown, or dropout. (Same with Battlefield 2042 if the Solo/Coop and Portal servers we get are close to us with low ping.)
3) They provide great opponents Vs. teams of humans (Once their difficulty is tweaked up to the Maximum. Something they confirmed we can do with Portal.)
4) They cause a game to have infinite replay value. (Especially with Portal)
5) Even if we can only play alone (no Lan) with Bots, it would be a great opportunity to practice all of the vehicles. Online it is very hard to practice new types of vehicles.Basically I am pretty much 50/50 about whether or not they stay in the Official All Out Warfare servers... As long as we could still get FULL PROGRESSION in the Solo/Coop and Portal matches like they already confirmed we will be able to.
