Based post. PORTAL was literally made in anticipation of the toxic playerbase hating on the next Battlefield (again). Big surprise that the players still hate it. /s
Unfortunately Portal is missing a few features for Conquest, and Rush which would make it a dream mode.
Currently you can select a map, select factions from different eras, disable individual vehicles, gadgets, weapons, classes and change certain gameplay options - ie revive, movement, health regen.
However you do not have access to the logic editor so you can't replace vehicle types with other vehicles, you can't have weapons, gadgets or vehicles from different eras for different factions (ie BF42 weapons for BF3 classes).
You can't replace or weapons / gadgets with other weapons / gadgets - ie setting up custom classes.
So basically you can play BF3 vs BF3, or BF3 vs BF42, or BC2 vs BF42 and so on, or a version of one of these with less weapons, vehicles and gadgets but nothing where things can be replaced.
As a result there is a proliferation of TDM and FFA because these are the only modes which give access to the logic editor allowing you to set up things like gun game.
If there was proper access to the logic editor for Conquest, and Rush, or at least Conquest then there would be a lot more variation with what could be done.
I know the majority of players will probably continue to avoid portal unless the xp cap is removed, but I would play the hell out of it with bots getting 0xp if I could customise conquest with the logic editor.
@Ga-Knomboe_Boy I believe you can force switch weapon systems to other the eras.....
Utilizing the options below it is possible.
Creating arrays or variables and referring to them through logic and control actions is attainable.
I have multiple examples with this done in different ways in servers I have created.
If it wasn't possible, Gun Master-style servers wouldn't exist.
I apologize for hijacking the post but incorrect perceptions need to be pointed out.
There is a difference between what they expect it to be and what they want it to be. I expected the game to be a military style fps. Where they are made up sniper units, engineers Corp, front line medics, assault grunts. Each one excelling and complimenting the other to form team to defeat the other.
This is based on real weapons and vehicles. I know I'm not the only one who appreciate what the armed forces do (thanks for your service) and think they got some really awesome toys to "play with". I thought it was awesome to be able to kinda get a feel for what it would be like to experience manning a freaking Abrams, Tiger or, T52. Flying an Apache, a Hind, the A10 Warthog (brrrrrr, brrrr brrr goes the gun)
It played as a game where you got revives or a tool to simply repair a vehicle. It was quick to get into action. It gave people a feeling of what it would be like. Its what set it apart from other games. HLL is what a little to hardcore, Squad looks like it is more coordination heavy. CoD is no vehicles.. Battlefield is right in between and fun. I don't get that feeling in 2042. It doesn't feel like a Battlefield, more like if The Expendables movie made a game

Lets Facts check things poeoples are or were saying !
1: some poeples complain there was no classes system ans standard soldiers ?
Facts : portal allow standard soldiers and custumizable classes
2: Poeoples complain as if there was no servers browser at all in the game ?
Facts : Portal has a servers browser in the front page
3 : Poeoples complain there was no millsims/ hardcore mode
Facts : Portal allow changes in pretty much any aspect of the game balance and damage , spotting , minimap , ui etc.. 2042 , BF3 , BFBC 2 , 1942 weapons classes vehicles mixed and matches if desired
Yet indeed because of exploiters and abusers who created easy way to farm xp for themselves

1. No one plays portal because it’s complete garbage at this point of time. Why should you only play on 2 maps from each battlefield? There should’ve been more maps in portal at launch. Why should you play portal when there is no weapon progression or stats or something to show off like service stars for the portal weapons?
2. You are talking about the server browser again. First of all the server browser in portal is nothing like the server browser we are accustomed to from previous battlefield’s. Secondly no one is mentioning anything about the server browser in portal everyone wants a server browser in AOW it’s absolutely necessary. Let others search games from the server browser and if you don’t like it then just search for a game with the help of the current matchmaking system.
3. You are correct we can create milsim/ hardcore experiences in portal but what is the use of that if we don’t have persistent servers. There are no official DICE servers in portal which will host any sort of game modes in portal so that atleast people can get into servers which will be up 24/7. Why can’t they add their official servers to portal so that they can atleast host CQ/Rush from BF 1942/BC2 and BF3?
4. DICE are smart enough to understand how the portal game mode could be exploited. Why can’t they turn off XP for only those servers which are being heavily modified for the purpose of exploiting and gaining XP. The community servers in BF3/4 also had this feature where if the server was heavily modified by changing the health, damage multiplier by a substantial amount then that server would get reduced XP or none at all.

Agreed, that is a very accurate summation of the actual problems which exist when trying to use Portal to put a band aid on BF2042.
AOW needs a proper server browser just like all previous BF titles had, end of story.
