congratulations on understanding the "live-service" monetization sceme.... This entire system is targeted at people who have severe FOMO and spending problems, reffered to as "Whales".
there are people spending clsoe to 10.000€/$ on skin bundles because they just need to won everything thus making them spend exorbitant amounts of cash and EA and other publishers know this, why do you think EA is fighting tooth and nail to stop any legislation restricting Loot-Boxes to 18+ or even classifying them as gambling? because that is how they really earn their money, predatory monetization
Indeed @X-Sunslayer-X .
With current state of affairs with the BF2042 game, then the vast majority of gamers (matter of fact MILLIONS of players) have already left this game for good. All despite they all paid 60-120$ for this game and its only a few months since launch. But the contents is simply not there and the fun is not there when trying to play the game.
Part of the few thousands of active players that are still on it world wide are those you describe as the compulsive buyers who actually may or may not have so much money, but they in any case feel they simply just need and must buy all belonging to a certain want they have. The price could actually be 10$ lower or even higher and many would still not think twice but still go ahead and make the online purchase.
So you may call it cynical and exorbitant pricing from EA side, but obviously one of their ways to try and claw back some of the money they spent on the BF2042 development cycle and try and maximize any potential profit they may get out of it over time. As example, try and look at the very old BF4 game, where you also still can purchase battle-packs. Things you otherwise just imply get for free when playing the game and accumulating XP. But still here you can buy e.g. a gold battle-pack for 3$. Something that costs near zero for EA/DICE to offer/manage, something players do not really need to pay for if otherwise just playing the game. But still you appear to have players they goes for it for whatever urge they have for instant possession and gratification.
None of us can decide what other players may decide to spend their money on or not.
And none of us can decide if its worthwhile, fair or not, on behalf of other players.
But what we can of course is always to express our own opinion.
And in my opinion then the price I already paid for the BF2042 license was still way to high for the very poor and dysfunctional game BF2042 was at launch and still is today here 6+ months later. And my own decision is not to spend one single $ more on EA/DICE until I have tangible evidence they have delivered a quality product and caring about their paying customers.
That EA/DICE now have put these game items up for sale at exorbitant prices for a truly still broken game just speaks volumes about how disconnected and predatory (or desperate?) they are in their business. (IMHO)
