I think you describe the situation very well! Thank you. This is how most people feel on 128 player games.
The good news is that on last GEN versions playing the PS4 version on my PS5 feels normal.
So why is that? Is it because of the cross play between different systems? Is it the different tick rate of the servers between the versions? Can someone explain? I would like the last GEN versions performance on the new GEN version. Can we settle this somehow once and for all? Is it because of crossplay or other technical issues? How is it that the last GEN version plays so nicely? How can they not get the game to play the same on new gen consoles/PC ?
The most noticeable difference playing on the PlayStation 5 and loading up the PlayStation 4 version is that it takes the same amount of time to kill someone and to get killed. Same amount of bullets from the same kind of weapon. This is what we want ideally.
Gamers who only played the 128 player version have no idea how much better this game is on last gen versions.
This has been an issue for some time in BF-games, BFV has this problem as well (the "TTD-bug").
2042 is even worse than BFV, it has a lower tick-rate, which seems to increase the problem.
At the moment S5 has issues with hit-reg and the "shooter-experience" in BF2042 is really bad now. The game becomes infuriating to play.
People talk about getting an CQC-infantry-only map, while I'm all for that, I think the 'netcode' issues could make it an awful experience.

We've been asking DICE to fix the ttd issue since BFV. Battle(non)sense did an in-depth YouTube video explaining how ping time fluctuations cause 'super bullets'.
Unfortunately DICE doesn't seem to have the tech to fix the ttd issue.
