The miniguns on the nightbird are totally inaccurate and spray everywhere. A regenerating tv missile that one shots most helis, and an easy way to infinitely replenish your AA missiles, and people still complain because someone gets a few kills in an air vehicle.
the Rao hack doesn't help when the stealth helo carpet bombs from 250m altitude in breakthrough. there is *nothing* defenders can do about it because defenders don't get air vehicles on a lot of sectors/maps. on top of that the wildcat evaporates in about 5 seconds due to being bombed by the helo/lis tv missiles (ok ok, i'm part of the problem on the tv missile thing sometimes if a vehicle is camping and kills me)
I have just started playing Rao and I am wondering what exactly does his "hack" do? They can still flare and run so what good am I doing there?
a lot of helo pilots will flare when they get the notification they are being hacked (before hack finishes) so they don't get smacked with the missile(s) that are inevitably coming after the hack. gives them time to run
So, it's basically just a purely defensive ability? Shouldn't it stop them from flaring, firing or really anything at all?
Like I said I have just started using him and so far I'm just not that impressed.
@Ironhead841Rao can stop strafe run. Or rather postpone it for 5 sec. Heli will turn around and still going to kill you (they see hack direction) but you can live just a little longer. And that is fair only IF hack actually works.
Hack prevent flares only AFTER it was finished (when he flings his finger). So there are 3 sec window to flare and make a circle to avoid rockets.Rao heavily depends on teammates. If you hack and then your teammates can shoot rockets then you are a great support. If you are alone and teammates doesn't help you then Rao is just a soldier and in general minor annoyance to vehicles.

Although in the post-3.2 world there is no missile coming from Rao and it is highly doubtful that he has 2 players working with him (an Angel and Support) and even those 3 won’t be enough to take down a good pilot, it will take 4th with a launcher as well and even that is not a match for a really good pilot.
You can't flare when hacked. So when the notification pops up, you flare and flee. It shouldn't be a promised kill just because you play rao. that's not op it's literally the only defense a helo has, imagine they couldn't flare so 100% of the time they get hacked some AA rocket streams up and 1 shots them. 100% of the time. That's downright special needs
Some heli pilots have found a workaround/exploit where they are able to flare after the hack. I sometimes see pilots dumping flares ~3 seconds after my hack finishes. When this happens, it's usually the same pilot doing it repeatedly (they've figured it out). Possibly related to seat-switching or somehow exiting and rapidly re-entering the vehicle which cancels it.
Before someone responds, note:
1. This is not due to lag, nor the pilot pre-flaring upon hack notification. It's a full 3 or more seconds of before the flares get popped after I've finished the hack. Not long enough for hack to have stopped, and too long to be a result of lag.
2. This is not because I've hacked a passenger or bailed soldier. The hack takes longer to complete, so I know it was the heli which was hacked.
- @Ironhead841 basically it disables weapons systems. Personally I think it should stop all flares and slow down the aircraft.
- @1gamerdad When you are hacked in a ground vehicle you cannot fire or use any defensive options. I'm pretty sure it's the same for aircraft.
- @Ironhead841 I don't play Rao much, but I always get him when there's a pilot standing out in combat, but Rao only works well when in a "closed squad" and even then the hack is very light and eventually you will still die to the gunner lol
Yeah, I gotta say he's not very fun to play with, doesn't really feel like he makes much of an impact.
- @Ironhead841 Basically I only use Angel and Falck, they are the only ones that I have the feeling that they help in the team work.

Sorry just saw this. The pilot gets a hack warning so they usually pop flares before hack finishes. They run to hide before flares wear off. While hacked their weapons are disabled and everything scrambles on hud kinda like emp grenade. Everyone in vehicle is also spotted even if they jump out
If they dont pop flares those are disabled too
