If EA/DICE needs this much input to get the current maps fixed to make them work for the modes they created, why not just open it up to the community? Release a map/level editor and allow players to create their own custom maps in Portal that could become official maps based on popularity.

You could do the same for custom skins as well. Just give Specialists, weapons, and vehicles a few extra slots for custom skins. 

If they are planning to make this a live service and Portal as the hub for the Battlefield Universe, then it would make a lot of sense to have some user-created content and editors.
