Vault Weapons & Progression

I think the title says most of it. Why do vault weapons have no progression paths? I really like the concept of weapons returning to the game. One main advantage is that you don't need to invent a new weapon and can easily use existing material to add new toys for us players, including fitting attachments. Now my question is: Why do vault weapons have no progression? The mastery system still exists and I am pretty sure that you could easily add progression paths which do unlock all stuff you should have unlocked on your mastery level automatically.

Battlefield 2042 is a really good battlefield game, all the last patches are so wonderful and the addition of "old-school" weapons is great - Still a game like this needs as much content as possible to keep it's players entertained and needs to give them stuff to do, even if it is just grinding a new weapon to unlock all attachments.

To add on this I find it is actually reducing the amount of fun I could have on progressing through the game (as I have just picked that game up a week ago) and have not yet unlocked everything as the vault weapons are much easier to unlock then actually leveling one specific weapon to get all the attachments you want. I just pick a vault weapon that sounds good and unlock it within a few games, then I got a good weapon with all available attachments for free.

In my opinion, not including a progression path to unlock the attachments for vault weapons (even if it isn't that much) is just a bit of wasted potential.

  • Hard agree. I love going through the entire unlock path of a weapon and fully kitting it out. I appreciate vault weapons having some attachments to start, but they feel so underwhelming compared to 2042 gun weapon attachments. Having skins and charms available for the vault weapons would also help integrate them into the game better. As it stands, I rarely find myself using the vault weapons because they feel like an afterthought instead of a proper weapon option. It would be super cool to see vault weapons get 2042 style attachments that can significantly alter their play style, along with giving more unlocks to players who like to grind for them.

  • @Sonic1305 Going out on a limb, I'd guess it's purely down to them being ported across and Dice didnt want to delay adding them. I wouldn't mind a progression path myself, especially if it meant we could use 2042 attachments.

@Sonic1305 I agree with most of your sentiment, but I stop using them after I hit Tier 1 simply because the optics choices are few and generally bad. I could care less about the charms and other stupid crap. I am still bothered by all the ridiculous character skins that make you look like a medieval executioner, dominatrix, chainsaw massacre, lumberjack, well, you get the point.

    Hey there,

    Thanks for asking this question.

The reason behind Vault Weaponry having everything unlocked when they're introduced to All-Out Warfare in Battlefield 2042 is quite a simple one, we feel that these weapons are already available to a player within Battlefield 2042's Portal experience, and as such it would be unreasonable to then take something that is naturally, already unlocked for use in Battlefield Portal and then place progression requirements on attachments and the likes just for the sake of doing so, when they are already obtainable simply by going to a different area of the game.

We value a player's time, and we do try to ensure that we include progression and things to work towards as and when we see fit - however, Vault Weaponry at the moment, is not one of those things. If it's already free in some other area of the game, it should receive those same requirements in the other area - no matter if they've been balanced for All-Out Warfare or not.
