They made it Squad only so you can only talk to the three people who are probably on the other side of the map but you can't speak to the people right next to you or in your vehicle where voice would actually make a difference.
We ( I ) didn't just want the platitude of a basic voice chat system. We wanted voice chat designed specifically to facilitate effective communication and co-ordination with the people you are playing with right there and then. Instead we got the same old bare minimum effort that permeates throughout 2042 itself.
Heck, the game doesn't even have the facilities to even test your mic is actually working or it's outputting at the correct levels. The only way to test your mic is to go in game and spam your squad mates, hoping they even have voice chat turned on, they speak your language and also care enough to respond with voice themselves or through text. What Dice Sweden has implemented wouldn't even pass for a game made in 1998.
