@Fraytnoss That kind of thing has been going on in COD for a long time. Basically, you complete challenges (headshots, hipfire kills, ADS kills, etc.) to unlock mastery player cards, badges and camos for each weapon. I think it's kind of cool, but I hate when teammates go for challenges instead of playing match objectives.
