Honestly it would make more sense to remove references to countries altogether since it's clearly neither US or Russian soldiers in the game.
Doing so would allow more creative freedom in what kind of vehicles they involve instead of having to stick with American and Russian armaments. Heck, I'd go as far as saying remove faction specific vehicles and creating more diversity between the options available. It would be a lot more lore and current event appropriate.

how about we have some content added before we talk about removing content. we aren't exactly flush with content in this game

The suggestion was to remove them as faction specific vehicles. Similar to how the American Nightbird, MAV and French Wildcat can be used by Russia or how the Russian hovercraft can be used by US.
Remove America and Russia as the belligerents and there would be no lore issue with allowing teams to choose between a M1 or a T18, an Apache or a Hokum. Diversify how each of these vehicles play and instantly there will be more variety to choose from.
It will also allow Dice Sweden to include vehicles and equipment from other nations from around the world without having to introduce new factions for them to make sense.
I understand why they did this but I still feel miffed about missing out on ingame content because I was not in a battlefield mood on Thursday
