What if DICE updates Frostbite Engine ?

Which will make us shoot through walls using specific AP bullets but with some disadvantages than regular bullets like dmg will be less and high bullet drops. ( Just like in Rainbow 6 Seize )

Is it going to be good or bad ?

  • Hi @HawkEyesCK ,

EA DICE team would not need to make any changes at all to the Frostbite engine for this to work as you describe here.  As it can encompass already for such game mechanics as it is.

We already have different material parameters in the game code which matched up against the ammunition parameters tell the engine what is the resulting game output.  Aka, no damage effect, material damage effect, penetration effect or aka like a radial damage effect on surrounding components and/or soldiers.

Think aka like on the airburst grenade launcher in the past.  Effect on soldiers and soft building materials like wood, even at a radius and not just in a direct hit impact.  While brick, concrete or metal structures had no impact from it.

We have also had different ammo types, take example for shotguns with like standard pellets, darts, fragmentation slugs and the classic single plastic saboted slug.  All for the same weapon but having very diverse use and impacts on various materials/enemies when shooting at them in the game.  Aka the frag ammo could easily blow out holes through brick walls and take out hiding enemies there, while pellets had no effect on them but instead super effective when up close in close-quarter-combat face to face with enemies.

So the Frostbite engine is already up for whatever fun you want to have with amour piercing ammunition!  😎👍

@HawkEyesCK We can do that in BF4 and BFV, at least while shooting through wood, so drywalls should be about the same maybe.
Stonewalls and metal containers would be something different, but I think it should be limited to high caliber guns, like cal .50
  • @kregora Yeah but in stone walls it doesn't work so I was bit optimistic if we can make bullet penetration with normal guns.
