To me battlefield is playing cat and mouse with vehicles. Me trying to kill them on foot and them doing vehicle things
To me it's a way to escape reality for a little while. I'm not especially good at the infantry combat side of things any more (I've gotten worse since BF1) but Battlefield still let's me feel like I'm being useful and supporting my team by restocking ammo and so on. I fly jets a fair bit too and am usually OK at that actually.
Was introduced to BF2 about 2006 by the IT team at work (all South Africans) and I joined their =IMPI= clan. Ran a TS server, and Friday nights became a regular blast! Squad jumping into a transport chopper and dropping into an occupied village with the squad leader staying in the air to provide a mobile spawn point. Hopping out of a tank to polish off AT infantry before they take their second shot, and the tank still being there when you get back. Using a jeep to get ahead of the squad and hiding in the trees as recon on the hill opposite the temple on Dragon Valley and covering and calling-out for your squad taking the flag on the jetty. Roof-top hopping picking-up and dropping off snipers using an Apache,
All about team play in a sandbox that allowed the group to be creative. Never ended a session without something hilarious happening, or someone being a real hero, or really, really needing to concentrate as a group to take or defend a flag.
