To me, what is missing most in BF2042, are the virtues of what made the previous games good, if not great. BF1 in particular. These virtues are wrapped in the soul of that game; from the look and feel down to game and team play.
Compiling a list is one thing, but it's like reading a great book, or watching a great movie - it's an intangible quality that is difficult to pin down, but is surely a confluence of many things.
Unfortunately, unless DICE/EA find the right people to replace the execs and developers of those games (who principally formed Embark Studios), then I don't see the situation getting better in respect to the BF series.
I note that another DICE veteran developer, Aleksander Grøndal left to join Embark Studios on 12 Jan 2022...
I'm keeping my eye on ARC Raiders...which looks very promising as a free cooperative action/FPS game
