It's simple - classes added a give-and-take to designing your soldier.
Want to snipe? You have to give up your anti-vehicle capabilities.
Want to be a vehicle player (repair or destroy)? You can't snipe or revive.
Want to be able to revive people? You lose some of your anti-vehicle capabilities.
If you look at this through the lens of "me me me", yes you are losing things. But this creates a requirement for teamplay.
It used to take multiple players to accomplish some of the things that a lone-wolf can now do on his own. Sniper getting harassed by a chopper? You needed to rely on your squad engineer. Now the sniper just whips out his own rocket launcher and keeps sitting by himself 500 meters away from the rest of his squad.
Now everyone puts whatever they need into their "specialist", and nobody needs to rely on their teammates anymore. This, combined with the crazy mobility of some specialists, has made this the most "lone-wolf" battlefield game I've ever played.

7 pages in and that is the first objective argument. however i don't see how that will prevent lone wolf players and force teamwork. we had those things in previous battlefield games and i did not see a noticeably higher number of people PTFO than in battlefield 2042.
all your argument proves is that vehicles will have less people shooting at them. there will still be wookies hiding on hills taking pot shots at people. if you restrict people to classes and if the medic weapon isn't meta then you won't be getting many revives as infantry. if the support weapon isn't meta you won't be much getting ammo. engineers could be a little different because people like myself enjoy hunting vehicles but i am biased so i can't really make a call on that. bet your a** there will be a ton of recon on hills with sniper rifles just like in every other battlefield game though.
you won't improve team play classes but you will destroy some people's playstyle. team play depends on the person on the controller not the avatar on the screen
- Man_iLoveFishing4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Psubond I mentioned before, sniper + ammobox = infinity camp. <--- fantastic team play. Freedom gives great chances for good meta (mostly lonewolf tho), also more freedom gives great at all no teamplay meta.
- 4 years ago@Man_iLoveFishing sniper+ no ammo box didn't prevent people from doing it in any of the previous games, why would it now? people just redeploy and go back to their sniper hide with full ammo(cause let's face it most of the time it is in their spawn)

I don't know if I'd say there have been more or less players PTFOing, but I certainly have seen less players that try to stick around their squad and team. There's definitely more people that will fly off with Sundance, or grapple off with Mackay, in this game opposed to sticking near their team or squadmates. Of course this has been an occurrence in previous games as well, but it definitely seems more pronounced in 2042 since there are less incentives to sticking near your squad/team.
And like you said, there have always been those pesky wookie snipers in Battlefield games. Now they just don't have a built-in weakness like they used to, IMO they should be weak to vehicles, and as a result they have even less incentive to play with their teammates than in previous games.
The average internet warrior will almost never prioritize teamplay over lone-wolfing it unless he is forced to or greatly rewarded for doing so. In previous games, it was at least extremely apparent that this is what they were trying to implement. It's wasn't perfect; no matter how important teamplay is there will always be some people that just ignore it and lone-wolf anyway. Devs can't really FORCE people to use teamwork (except in games like It Takes Two lol), but they can certain guide them in that direction. This is how it felt to me in previous games. In 2042, there is even less importance given to teamplay, and to me it does show in the game. I see less variety in squads (90%+ sundance and angel when I play) and even when playing with friends there's less inter-squad teamwork than there used to be, simply because there doesn't need to be.
And it's really up to the individual player whether or not they like this change. Some people don't like feeling like they need to rely on teammates, and those people will most likely enjoy the flexibility and power that the specialist system gives them. Personally, I always liked the feeling in Battlefield games that I needed to rely on my teammates, and my teammates needed to rely on me, and without each other we would not be victorious. It was one of the things that most set Battlefield apart from COD to me, where one good player could (and would) singlehandedly win the match.

These maps require you to play more than one role which i like. It’s different from other BF games but it is still not Fortnite Apex.
We need VOIP and need to see what our squad mates are doing before we spawn on them. These 2 things create team play and a sense of belonging. Also: stay with your squad (strangers) after each round. - kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Dsmilees I pretty much assume, you really believe that, and that is actually sad.
The Recon with a sniper rifle that camps 500m from its squad mates, is as bad as the Specialist with a sniper rifle that camps 500m from its squad mates.
When the Recon gets harassed by a helicopter, he maybe dies, and spawns on his spawn beacon. The Specialists can do the same, or he can bring his AA rocket, and most likely not kill the Helicopter with it, but he won't spawn at that spot again.
The issue you have is purely and alone with the Specialist named Angel.
That one needs some drastic fixing. My suggestion is, the Revive Team-mates ability needs to be stripped, and the provide Armor ability needs to be limited to himself and his squad.
You only have one gadget to choose from, you can't change your perk.
I believe the people that vehemently promote BF3 classes are also the players that didn't like BF4 much. And I assume the reasoning behind this probably the same. In BF3 each class brought a team supporting gadget.
Like the team member reviveable defibrilator, ammo crate, spawn beacon or an anti-vehicle weapon, so you could be sure, that 1 in 4 people brought the gadget you expected.
This all went away with BF4, since everyone was no longer 'forced' to bring those items. I think about the Assault with an underbarrel grenade launcher and medpack, or the Support with M18 Claymores and MP-APS, or the Recon with T-UGS and pokeballs.
And with BF2042 it is now even more unlikely that anyone brings the "standard gadgets".
Everyone that plays their class outside the "norm" is a "lone-wolf", and that includes the BF4 spec-ops recon with silenced carbine, sneaking behind enemy lines and capturing flags on its own.
