@Albake21z The models in older games all had faces and as to names, so what? Apart from the menus and some one liners, specialist names (nevermind back story) do not appear in game.
What fundamental difference does it make if you play as Boris instead of Support, Falck instead of Medic or Casper instead of Recon?
None what so ever!
Assuming you read all my post you would have seen the bit where I mentioned faction skins would help but are not essential for me. That said, if you play as Sundance for example, how many times gave you seen an enemy Sundance and not tried to shoot them? And be honest.
Marvel/Disney characters? That's a new one!

@Trokey66 I said mostly, because most of their faces were covered up. Their faces were also so generic, there was no way to tie a character to it.
You already answered your own question. The difference is Falck is a strong written character, with a background and specific voice lines. Hearing and seeing the same thing on both teams is an issue. She's Russian, but works on both teams.
I've gotten slightly better at it, but in my 85 hours, it's happened often, Not so much from a distance, but up close there have been many instances where I was confused if it was an enemy or teammate. Only way to know is by playing laser tag and looking to see what color glow stick they have.
How much better would it be if Sundance was faction specific, so I don't have to look at a damn glowstick. I would see, hear, and acknowledge that Sundance = specific team.

- 4 years ago@Albake21z i think they should have different skins for each faction but then we run into people complaining that they can't use their teir 1 skin or some other skin. not defending the argument, just saying it will be made
dice has proven they can crank out skins so it shouldn't be a big ask to have a russian T1 skin and a US T1 skin for each specialist (and while they're at it give us the option to mute the one liners) - Trokey664 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Albake21zWhat difference does this 'strong written character with background' make? Whilst I disagree, I can understand the voice line bit but then I assume every sound I hear is enemy generated until proven otherwise.
If you hear something and the isn't a blue dot on the mini map, it's an enemy.....
As to visuals, I can safely say that once they fixed the blue/green dot over friendlies heads, I have never had an issue with identifying enemies. Indeed, before the fix, the issue was shooting at friendlies by mistake.- Albake21z4 years agoSeasoned Hotshot@Trokey66 It makes all the difference in immersion. I'll never understand how someone actually thought taking 10 distinct heroes and stretching those across 128 players on both sides was a smart idea. It's clone wars, and it takes away from what made BF what it was.
Real soldiers do not look or act like narcissistic heroes. They all look exactly the same other than the equipment they have on them. So why in BF where the game is an arcade war sim, would it be any different?
BF1 and BFV at least started getting this correct. It allowed you to customize your character to give your own identity, while still remaining rather anonymous and as just cogs withing the machine. Like how real platoons are in real war.
That's why this all bothers me. It takes away any seriousness the franchise had. BF always was an arcade shooter in gameplay, while presenting itself with the design of a milsim. That is no longer the case in BF2042.
Also, just to be clear here for everyone, I'm not trying to say anyone here is right or wrong. Or that anyone can or cannot like this game. We're all BF fans here and we all just want what's best for this game. I like to think we're all still apart of the same community even with our differences.
- kregora4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Albake21z So first, Falck is German, the English and Russian out cries were added after the Beta, because language was one feature to tell friend from foe in other Battlefield games.
Second she is female. I am pretty convinced, that Angel can revive team mates, because in the original concept the only medic was a woman.
And yeah we know the glow sticks are here to "help" with the friendly/unfriendly clone issue. But I am also sure, that no one believes that glowsticks on camouflage battledresses help when hiding in the bushes. More than once I shot bushes, because I glimpsed something red glowing in there. And it also something why I despise T1 skins, because now the friendlies also have the red accents "reserved" for enemies.- AntEater19974 years agoSeasoned Hotshot@kregora I loved in 3 and 4 when I would be in an objective area and could hear an English/Russian/Chinese voice screaming reloading or grenade when I threw one in the direction they were in. That told me that there is an enemy player over there. The sound design was top notch and those little implementations of real time feedback besides just footsteps made you feel so immersed.
