What is the purpose of the assault rifle?
Does anyone know what exactly is the purpose of an assault rifle in BF 2042? Far to mid range , LMG wins. Mid range to close, SMG wins. Far, Mid, Close, prone, behind rock, behind tree, inside tor...

@GosBikerNo offence intended but I think the problem is elsewhere if one loses to bolt action rifles in close range. The sniper was either lucky as heck or just much better than the other player.
Assault rifles are jacks of all trades and masters of none and the darlings of the dev teams, sooner or later anything that beats them will get nerfed.
- @UP_Hawxxeye Assault rifles are useless. No one uses them anymore. SMGs just are superior in any range. SMGs don't have recoil at all and have lower spread. It's broken.

I've been playing the assault rifles non-stop and I can tell you, it only kills fast if you attach rapid fire on it.
Snipers are OP, they do not flinch when getting shot at. And as mentioned by the rest, if you did play with the assault rifle enough, you'd realise that you'd do much better with the SMG for rushing and LMG for camping/defending.
edit: rapid fire takes away the range, making this a 2nd class SMG. So, you'd rather use a SMG.
The SVK is stupid OP at the moment, its why almost everyone is running that or an lmg.
