In my opinion BF2 is what i like to think of when i think battlefield.
- nixRidge4 years agoNew Adventurer@DrunkwoIf 2142 is where it peaked for me, my favourite entry in the series. It is what I think of when I think classic Battlefield, but fundamentally in the core engine and game feel, 2 and 2142 are the same. So to be fair I completely agree.
- 4 years ago@nixRidge I also really liked 2142, it had all the basic functions that BF2 had, server browser, classes, commanders, so on and so on.

Classes with generic soldiers like in the real military (MOS) like let's say in the marines 0331 is a machine gunner, 0311 is rifleman etc. You feel you are one of many.
Long Range combat along with excellently designed close quarter maps where each class can utilize it's strengths
Squad coordination. I've seen where 1 coordinated squad dictates the way the game flows.
Destruction
In that order.
For me "THE" Battlefield experience is BF3, and I have played since 1942.
- Lancelot_du_Lac4 years agoSeasoned Ace@DrunkwoIf My first BF, as well. To be fair, if BF2 was launched today, I think it would be a successful and VERY SMALL franchise.
The gaming community has changed dramatically (think Fortnite) since we started to play on-line. It is all about instant gratification, no grind, everyone gets a prize. EA is only interested in big, successful franchises.- nixRidge4 years agoNew Adventurer@Lancelot_du_Lac Well said, I couldn't have worded it better myself. The things that made Battlefield fun for us during its inception as a series is a niche interest today, sadly.. But it is what it is.
- 4 years ago@Lancelot_du_Lac I would ask you to look towards your favorite sport and ask yourself how much has it changed over the years?
- Lancelot_du_Lac4 years agoSeasoned Ace@fragnstein Are you agreeing or disagreeing with my comment? But in answer to your question:
Favourite sport is F1, and that has changed significantly over the years - engines, aero, professionalism, etc. (but they still race on the same tracks as they did in 50's - Monza, Spa, Monte Carlo).
My second favourite sport is tennis and, apart from the technology of racquets and coloured clothing, it is still played on a court of similar dimensions and rules as it was in the 1900's.
Sorry if I have missed your point.

@DrunkwoIf this is an excellent thread. For me it's BF2 and BF3 that represent peak Battlefield for me but I agree with what the OP says 100% and have been making these very critiques and solutions since Specialists were seen last June and my tech test and Beta feedback as well. I really hope DICE puts the effort into making the game something the core community wants to play instead of just abandoning it like they did in BF5..
