Why always either 64 or 128 players, and not some number between?

Hi,

I have a question I would like to get a good answer to. Whenever there is a discussion about the suitable number of players on AOW breakthrough and conquest, people always talk about either 64 or 128 players. This may come as a surprise to most people, but there actually exists numbers between 64 and 128, so I wonder why nobody talks about these other mystical numbers? For different maps there maybe different number of players that is suitable. I myself think that 128 players on Flashpoint conquest is to much, but I'm not sure if 64 players is optimal either. Maybe the best number suitable is 96, or 84 for that matter? And in Flashpoint breakthrough, maybe 48 could be better for all I know? I can't for the love of god understand why these numbers can't be tweaked more in this regard on the different maps. It should be an easy thing to do, and it may well make some maps and modes play better than they do now. This also goes for other modes like TDM, I think some maps are to big for 16 vs 16, Flashpoint is one example. A few more players would maybe play better? 

Are there anyone else thinking the same thing?

  • Definitely been brought up/discussed before but I'm uncertain as to why it hasn't actually been tested on official servers. Flak has been suggesting ~40 players per side recently on Twitter and I'm thinking 84-92 could be a happy medium like you said.

    @TTZ_Dipsy Honestly I've been having the most fun I've ever had on this game on Rush. Which is 16v16. The game modes on here are awful. Conquest is terrible because of the player count. I think the player count needs adjusted per map. Hourglass and discarded are huge so definitely 128p. But maps like stranded should only have 64p. But the way it is now, I find matches to be either too chaotic because there is too many people or just flat out boring. Breakthrough was my favorite game mode but it's completely ruined now. That balance between attacking and defending is just all over the place especially with how many/what vehicles each team gets and how broken the transport helicopters are in this game. Rush seems to be a good flow of just enough chaos without it being overwhelming and the balance feels right except for when there is a transport helicopter.
