Just look at how simple those ranks are. Real world ranks without some arbitrary number attached to them just so they can cater to the generation of gamers that think they have to get some reward on their screen every 30 minutes. Ranks used to mean something back then. When you saw a Colonel or General in BF2 you were in awe because you knew the dedication and the prerequisite medals required to achieve those. I remembered seeing their clan tags and applying to clans wanting to have one of my own. Just reaching 2nd Lieutenant was an amazing feeling just for the fact that you no longer had stripes. Getting to the next rank was such a strong motivator to continue playing because everybody understood the work required to get those ranks. Getting multiple ranks thrown at you with some number attached to it completely ruins any meaning whatsoever.
Can we teach gamers to understand and have the ability to have some delayed gratification? Actually accomplishing a long term goal feels a lot sweeter than having ranks machine gun blasted in your face for the purposes getting people hooked on loot boxes.
We should probably not generalize, but true, in these 'modern times', everything appears to be about self promotion, instant gratification and entitlement... There is definitely limited patience around these days...
So would you suggest that we get/maintain the many various assignments in the game, and they are all linking towards requirements for ranking up. Perfect for me, as I like the little personal challenges they pose, to stretch out and do specific tasks I maybe never would have thought about/dared to do, as long as those assignments are relevant and productive for the gameplay and teamwork!

BF2 rank was XP and badges
Badges require learning all combat roles.(classes).
Medals and ribbon are separate assignments
Some BF2 of the task was per time based, some kills and some points collecting all the time.
BFV went extreme the location, position and weapon for three assignments at a time.

I don't mind as long as any assignments aren't at BFV levels of stupid.

Agree. I can't resist a challenge and working through the timed challenges in BV became a chore - but I still could not ignore them! The other challenges, the ones you could select, didn't really have any proper rewards - I'd settle for a badge or medal (plus some XP) , just completing a challenge to unlock another challenge made me lose interest.
