Weapons are the only thing unlocked across all specialists. Gadget wise specialists still fall into specific class categories so gadgets are still limited to a class. All the complaints are completely cosmetic. People want gender choice and nameless soldiers instead of pre-made characters with a back story. Simple as that.

I can safely say that having played since Bad Company, I have never chosen or avoided a class based solely on character appearance.
This all just seems like a typical pre release 'community' storm in a tea cup.....
@Neovisi0n will find out Sunday. But from the few videos I watched of people who were at the press event, guns are the only class agnostic element to loadouts.
