@Ingeniekeyso why is that different from 64 players all using the defib in bf4?
Also, If you watch the trailer carefully, you can see the same characters in the same frame but looking completely different, which means even within each specialist, youll have lots of options for what you look like.
Though I get the feeling of playing as yourself vs playing a specific character. Though playing games like modern warfare, I never really got a detached feeling.- 5 years ago@Neovisi0n Its different because you are able to roleplay as yourself behind the helmet and goggles. You can pretend in your mind that this is you. Soldiers have the same uniform, but the problem is when the characters have the same facial features and first name and surnames making them replicas of eachother. Thats the problem. The problem of creating replicas. Same uniform and helmet=ok. Same face, name and identity=Not ok.
- 5 years ago@Ingeniekey First, we already know that there will be customization within each of the specialists.
As for names and faces, Id bet you'd be extremely hard pressed to actually notice a specific face mid battle, and I doubt the name is going to be any more than a menu/ interface device. These aren't things that will pull you out of the immersion mid game.

I did get a detached feeling. felt playing a certain hero as in like apex. I personally like better the feeling of being the Unknown soldier on the field. would have been nice with a little but limited customization so you stand a little bit out in your squad.
This hero solution doesn't work for BF for me.- TankerFlanker5 years agoSeasoned Ace
I've started wondering will specialist have more health than a regular player soldier? Kind of like the battle pick ups in BF1.
- ninjapenquinuk5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Ingeniekey So 30 assaults v 25 medics (All generic clones) didn't break immersion in bf1 or any game previous to bfv? The whole name thing is just marketing rubbish. Whether the specialist system works won't be because they have names
- 5 years ago@ninjapenquinuk DICE need to rethink the replica problem. Replicas=Not ok. Similar uniforms=ok.
- 5 years ago@Ingeniekey As I already said, you can literally see the same character with different skins in the trailer. Maybe when the game first launches and there aren't many cosmetic options yet, you'll see replicas, but a couple months in, thats not going to be the case.
if anything previous battlefield games are going to have more "replicas" than 2042 will.

@ninjapenquinuk No it didn't because you played under a faction so there was there immersion of unit cohesion. Also at that time having more skins weren't really thought off. But wished by many.
- 5 years ago@ninjapenquinuk Yes, it kind of did break some of the immersion in BFV/BF1, but they didn't have first names and surnames. I think i BFV we can change face and play as man/woman, so this creates variety and the problem of replicas isn't really there.
GREAT! well now you'll be able to choose whatever character you want!!! Man or Woman and guess what, every one of those options looks completely different!!!!!
I'm really not understanding your "replica" issue here, if anything this is already some of the most customizability we've every gotten in battlefield.

- mathematics6545 years agoSeasoned Ace@Ingeniekey BFV soliders ALL had names, only that there was more options, but there was still named soliders, which was the "names" for the skin color/gender options, honestly, I don't care, I just want to have at least diffrent clothing options, I play Apex Legends and even there I don't always notice who I'm fighting against, I don't think it will be a problem if 2042, I just hope to have some helmets/unifroms to choose from

The "immersion" claim is old, unfounded and a straw man argument in Battlefield games. Every class was an identical clone of the next guy playing that class. Where was the bellyaching, gnashing of teeth and community outcry at past 15 titles about character appearances and "muh immersion" then? This reminds me of the social media twatter mob and thier manufactured outrage over something they've never researched.

So watched a 2nd jackfrags video exclusively on the specialists preview during the press event. 20 minutes of specialists gameplay was shown and one the details I think may help some of the issues raised on being able to identify what the enemy class is. When you get within like 20-40 meters (inthink is what he said) it shows the enemies gamer tag as well as a symbol for the class they are running. He specifically saw both the assault and engineer symbols as part of the enemy ID when you spot or are within range. 2 things here. 1. Identification visually becomes a non issue regardless of cosmetics (which is nice to know) 2. The original class symbols are still in the game which means classes on some level likely are still present outside of specialists or why bother having them represented at all as and identifying mark. Anyway thought it was interesting and relevant to some complaints around specialists.
