Problem with that is if they did that, they are already dividing the already dwindling player base that they already have. If you read through the forums so many posts already talk about cross-play off and not being able to find a match on Breakthrough/Conquest in AOW, the problem isn't server issues but rather player count for cross-play on/off. I want to say 98% of the community only plays cross-play on and that only leaves 2% for cross-play off (not even taking in consideration of the fact that there are 5 different versions of the game for that serverwise between old gen and new gen along with PC) so if they added that then good luck finding a match at any point.
@DaddyWarBukxPC gamer here since the late 80’s but I prefer to play Battlefield on Xbox. Been playing BF on Xbox 360, One and X/S since BF4.
In years past the player base has ALWAYS been split into PlayStation, Xbox and PC communities in past BF titles and finding a match has never been an issue. Hell I can hop on BF4, V or BF1 on Xbox this very minute and still find a several full Conquest matches running almost 24/7. But I can queue for half an hour before I find a 2042 match on Xbox One or X/S.
So I’m having a hard time believing that cross play is to blame here for not being able to find a match on PS5 or Xbox w cross play disabled.
See I have an issue with the whole argument that without PC players, console players don’t have a large enough player base to play 2042. If that’s true, then how the hell have we been able to hop on BF4, BF1 and BFV on Xbox One and get immediately into a full Conquest any time of day or night for over a decade?
- 4 years ago@Psychopski There are more factors that go into server population then just "I hop on older title I should find match". Time of day, Region, actual numbers of players online, access points going down, how many players actually have cross play turned off, what type of gamemode you are playing, how many players are playing that exact mode, etc... So many factors play into it and with the poor reception the game has gotten its not impossible for server population to dwindle (even something as simple as putting everyone into brand new matches rather than pooling can be an issue) what the game needs is a server browser (completely oversaturated as a complaint I know) so these things don't hinder any of the modes moving forward.
- 4 years ago@Psychopski that's because they did it wrong from the start. Instead of the possibility to opt out from full xplay, they should have gone xplay console only by default and opt in for full xplay with PC. Worse thing is that for xbox they removed the in game toggle, so people who would have liked to play with xplay off, but didn't know (or want to) how to turn it off on a system level, just left, which means an even smaller playerbase on xbox, and even worse on XsX where the install base is still small (it's almost impossible to find one...). On the past Bf you didn't have a choice, so the population was more stable and healthy, at least until a new BF is launched. With 2042 between the forced PC xplay, matchmaking problems, servers time out and the lower next gen installed base, you can feel a downward dynamic on the players' population on console.
I hope they can see it, and I also hope this will force them to consider console only xplay, not just by opt-in but by default.
