Why prox sensor (or smoke granade) deal on-hit damage?

Damage is not displayed in the damage statistics (because it's not a shot). In the game itself, deals damage around 50. This moment was not recorded. Bug or feature? https://youtu.be/ElZ9k0tj6VI

Grenades have done contact damage in most, if not all Battlefield titles to my knowledge; It took some work but I even remember getting kills in BF1 with the periscope and gas mask. I can see grenade launchers do heavy damage but it'd take some weird physics to have a hand tossed grenade get a crit lol
