Why the phantom updates?

So the 3.3 update was only supposed to address the following:

  • Fixed a game crash that could occur on Origin or Xbox One when signing in/out while using an Xbox One controller
  • Setting “Chat” Key Bindings no longer requires a game restart to take effect
  • Adjusted Aim Assist on console to ensure that the system is in effect when analog sticks are at 100% of their range. Previously it was only active at ranges below 100%
  • Fixed a bug where takedowns would not result in a kill on Xbox One and PlayStation®4
  • Conquest & Breakthrough - fixed a bug where the Securing Objective XP-event was triggered even after a Capture Point was already fully captured
  • Hazard Zone - fixed a visual bug displaying squad mates during the match found sequence
  • Hazard Zone - fixed a bug where the End of Round XP gains sometimes didn’t trigger

So why were there other changes not listed here? What is going on? Players are reporting new bugs or the return of bugs that were supposedly fixed before this update. How is that possible if these were the only things that were changed? What am I missing here? Sounds have even changed even.

Is there a full list of update changes, like a changelog somewhere else?

  • It's kind of a Battlefield tradition for updates to break things that were previously fixed.

This is why I really liked the Trello board for BFV - it was handy for keeping an eye on things like this.

@ElliotLH yeah I know, just don't understand why they would change in game sounds. Little Bird gun sounds like crap now.

@ElliotLHyep the Nightbird main gun sounds terrible now, wasn't broken before, why edit a sound with so many other things to address?

Here is a list of changes they didn't announce:

    • Here’s every buff, nerf, and change spotted in Battlefield 2042’s Update 3.3:
    • MD540 Nightbird Minigun audio changed
    • MD540 Nightbird Minigun buffed
    • MD540 Nightbird rockets nerfed
    • Jets 30mm Cannon buffed, with spread reverted back to how it was at release
    • Fall damage decreased
    • PC performance on lower end hardware increased
    • Fire rate increase for AK-24’s Drum Mag

    from here: https://charlieintel.com/every-secret-buff-nerf-in-battlefield-2042-update-3-3-patch/166720/

Again, why not list these? Why change the audio now to something worse?

  • @Adamonic , the worrying thing is that when EA/DICE is not listing the exhaustive list of what actually was mingled with, then it indicates that the dev team is struggling with proper version control of the software codes they are checking out/in for their incremental updates.

To put it blunt, they are not in proper control of their code segments and the global impact they each have when submitted into the combined source for the full build.

@Adamonic Probably because the teams weren't even aware of the changes. Terrible internal process, chaos, and a lack of any internal communication often results in missed notes like this.

It's hardly a stretch to imagine DICE as a complete internal disaster given the state of the game and lack of any external communications, much less anything to get remotely excited about or look forward to.

@Adamonic Thanks for the list. I still reckon a lot of these, or possibly all of them, will be unintended as they all seem like things which would have been noted otherwise. Total assumption on my part though.

    Hi @ElliotLH ,

Yes all these changes would have been noted if EA had done any kind of basic testing inhouse before releasing the patch to the live environment.

There are multiple and still reoccurring very worrying signs that EA/DICE is simply not on top of controlling their own code for this project.  Basic testing and quality controls are simply MIA.

That would help immensely @CyberDyme. This kind of thing has been happening for the last couple of titles at least, so more testing should stop that.
