Why was the UI such a big issue for the devs? UI over budget?

How did the UI get over budget? Why so many issues with a simple thing as that?

was it the plus menu? Or the game menu? 

there wasn’t even a scoreboard until later on.

    @WedgeTornado It's not the UI specifically. It's more the way the engine handles the UI. I fear Frostbite isn't going to be around much longer, it seems that it's becoming too difficult to develop on and they'll probably switch to something like UE5.

    @MortalitasWolf What the heck. "feels good you trust us". Said its a solid game then after he leaves EA says it has tons of issues during the dev cycle.

    That podcast just further provides claims to how butchered the entire development process was. From design to implementation. I feel bad for new people getting hired into such a mess but GD this shouldn't be passed on to consumers at full retail. The claims from the mouths of the devs / PR along with the marketing is just blatantly wrong.

    @MortalitasWolf Lord, "have faith, fam" guy. He was on staff at the time. I'm sure he's a wonderful person IRL, but the DICE staffers gaslighting the community about the quality and level of completion of the game pre-launch was one of the largest contributing factors to my decision to not buy games from DICE anymore.

    I expect EA and DICE proper to BS us and lie about how amazing the game is, that's advertising. I expect the senior devs that they stick in marketing videos reading a script are reading a script and not giving their 100% honest opinion.

    I don't expect devs to go out of their way to gaslight and lie about the game they're working on to their community, unprompted.

    All that positivity for nothing, because DICE lied and shipped a half finished, buggy, broken, incomplete game.

    And DICE wonders why the community doesn't trust them anymore. Because of garbage like this.

    Let me take some keywords out of the tweets:

    Faith ❌️  is gone.

    Trust ❌️  is gone.

    Solid Game ❌️ Never was.

    It' not a project in trouble ❌️ ehm...guess again.

    @DigitalHype  Thanks for the link! What an eye opening interview! Turns out everything Tom Henderson said about DICE stuggling with the Frostbite engine is true

    Jim Hejl talks about how the UI HUD in 2042 was so unoptimized that rendering the little red dot above vehicles caused more frame rate drops than rendering the actual vehicle itself. DICE had no idea and had to higher Jim as an outside contractor to figure it out.

    Jim goes on to talk about how hard it is to work with the Frostbite editor. He says all the collage students are learning on Unreal and Unity and have no idea how to use Frostbite.

    Another interesting comment is he seems to think the video game industry is moving towards player generated content. Like during the early days when game modding was popular.

    A very insightful and eye opening interview well worth listening to.

    Eye opening indeed and maybe goes some way to explaining why everything seems to take so long.

    As a matter of interest how long have DICE been using the Frostbite engine.?
