But to be fair, the Wildcat cannot take down a competent jet player. It's impossible, and I'm not being hyperbolic.
For the jet to take out a Wildcat or a Wildcat to take out a jet, both target vehicles need to be already damaged.
A competent jet pilot can be taken down easily by a wildcat if they are flying low and busy engaging another target/out of flairs - the wildcat can damage the jet incredibly fast while the opposite is NOT true (also ridiculous 400 vs 600 m long on range)

I play mostly vanilla conquest (love the new tactical conquest BTW) and this happens all the time, forcing jet pilot to retreat during engagement (against other vehicles). Wildcats have substantially more hp than jets, deal far more damage (and at a greater rate) and can also lock onto the jet before jet pilot has a chance to lock onto wildcat (AGM). Also, jet 30 mm cannon seems to only deal decent damage to ground vehicles at close range, probably in part because of ridiculous spread (my aim is alright - https://youtu.be/fIZo7CSFsBI)

They really can't.
I've spent entire rounds with AA lock ons and 30mm on the Wildcat targeting jets and its impossible.
They always have a flare ready to pop, which cancels your AA and then off they fly out of range of the 30mm.
Or you start with the 30mm and then use the AA missiles you get the same result.
You will only catch them if they make a mistake.
But because they can't take out the Wildcat with their AGMs as long as the Wildcat saves its smoke then that's fine.

As I've said, jets are easy targets to wildcats specifically when the jet pilots are being distracted by something else - ie when they are busy engaging other targets at low altitude (also at lower speed). Also, chances are that the jet pilot already had to deploy flares during the engagement, meaning that the jet has no chance of surviving if wildcat locks onto it and launches a pair of missiles (unless there's cover).
Because of the different max lock on range (600 vs 400 m), a wildcat is able to lock onto the jet before jet has a chance to lockon, thereby forcing jet to waste flare during an engagement. If jet pilot has not disengaged at this stage, it's almost certain that the jet is getting destroyed
