According to Battlefield 2042 pre-order information, you'll need to buy the gold or ultimate addition if you want the ability to upgrade to next-gen.
Publishers are raising the price of PS5 games by $10 compared to PS4 games. So the standard edition on PS4 will cost $60, and the standard edition on PS5 will cost $70.
So as you can see, if the standard edition on PS4 could be upgraded to PS5, everybody would just buy the PS4 version for $10 cheaper.
(I used PlayStation as an example, because it gets confusing talking about Xbox naming schemes. We have Xbox One S , Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One X. Microsoft really has to come up with a better naming scheme. 😰
