@SF-TebagginsBut Battlefield is not and have never been a competitive game like Siege. If it were a game with tournaments and such I would agree but it's not.
It's a sandbox game where you play to have fun
Either way it can be solved with matchmaking, just pair consoles players using keyboard and mouse against PC players simple as that.
And of we ban players using devices that gives you an advantage should we not ban ultra-wide monitors, controllers on PC or high end PC wich gives higher FPS an advantage over those with a low end PC? And now we have consoles wich can go up to 120 Hz with different monitors/tvs, some people will always have an advantage depending on what devices they use, not only controllers or keyboards.
@Blackidus That is very incorrect. Battlefield is a competitive game and has numerous esports leagues setup around the world. And has been since the days of BF3. People also play siege for fun, but the point is as simple as I made it. If you are using a piece of equipment that is not permitted by the game, that gives you an unfair advantage performance wise. Then its cheating. This applies to many games across console and as said most of them take it very seriously and even permanently ban people caught using M&K in any games regardless if it is in a competitive setting or not.
Yes doing selective matchmaking is a solution but it then creates another problem of people not being able to find games. This is apparent in CoD and apex legends. It takes on average 5x longer to find a game once you have disabled crossplay then when you have it enabled. Not because there are more pc players than console, but purely because everyone knows how much longer it takes so people do not bother. Pairing console keyboard and mouse players only with pc players again is a good idea, but whether it can be implemented is another story im not sure if you can create a code/mechanic that would detect this and how complex it would be to create e.t.c. You would essentially have to create another layer to the matchmaking system that detects the type of input being used by the player. This relies on whether the console actually shares that data which I do not know if it does.
Your 3rd point is literally a straw man argument. Devices such as monitors, headsets are personal preference and has nothing to do with the control input method. If you are playing PC and it is a low-end vs high-end then you clearly did not look into things enough when your brought your PC or got into PC gaming. We are talking exclusively about control input methods here and how it creates a huge disadvantage.
- 4 years ago@SF-Tebaggins You base your comments on eSport which is far from what we want. I want to use kb&m to play Battlefield 2042 single and multiplayer on my Xbox series X. I don't care about eSport rules and bans.
Microsoft opened the kb&m API for all developers so they can implement it the way they want. You would not be creating a new layer, just adding a new filtre along with the dozen already in place, like type of match, latency, etc...
So just because it's a "personal preference" it doesn't give you an advantage? As @Blackidus said before there are some technics the game can implement that could minimise the disadvantages. And let's be honest, if a player is feeling a huge disadvantage just plug a kb&m and be happy! We are talking about a $20 accessory that anyone can have, or already have, to enjoy the game.- 4 years ago
@TifanofauvoI have not based it solely on esports content. It also all aspects of playing multiplayer. Using keyboard and mouse against console controller players gives you a massive advantage with your reaction, aiming and control speeds. It's a proven fact which is why games ban people who are caught using them now. Microsoft may have opened up to it but have sony? It's cheating and if you advocate for it then you are also a part of them problem. There is only one legitimate use for mouse and keyboard on console that I have found and it is for people with disabilities.
- 4 years ago@SF-Tebaggins So you are saying that Microsoft is providing cheating tools by allowing kb&m on Xbox? Part of the problem?! You should think about what you are saying, it doesn't make sense.
By the way, Sony also allows keyboard and mouse.
The problem that I see is people who are not willing to accept/adapt to changes. Keyboard and mouse on consoles is a reality and it is growing fast!
Again, if you think you have a HUGE disadvantage, by all means plug your keyboard and mouse and be happy.

@SF-TebagginsNo in it's core Battlefield is not a competitive game, if there are tournaments then it's up to them to set the rules. Simple as that.
Input based matchmaking is allready a thing in several games as Warzone and Halo where you also have the fredom yourself to limit matchmaking to the same input method as yourself or matchmake with all. Playstation can also use mouse and keyboard, it's up to the game developer. Halo also has icons for input usage on the scoreboard so you know what input devices People are using.
Of course other hardware than just controler gives you advantages. For example ultra wides gives you I wider field of view than other players thats why I use one.And by the way you are putting it, if you use input devices the game does not allow it's cheating, but what if it allows it, it's not cheating anymore? Its the developers choice and if they put it there it's not cheating.

and even if they chose not to support it, there will be those third party semi-cheat devices that support it.
The best way to control a situation is to keep it legal and regulated.

Serious question, not being a d*
If someone hates/severely dislikes using a controller for gaming.....why even have a console?
Wouldn't it make more sense to have a pc to roll games if using a keyboard and mouse are a must have?

@Blackidus Battlefield is a competitive game and is defiantly not a sandbox game like you mentioned before lol. A sandbox game are games like arma, Minecraft, even gta is a sandbox game. Battlefield has set objectives that need to be achieved in a set manor to win a game, and that goes for pretty much all game modes.
Input based matchmaking is worse. You're now pairing PC players using a controller with in the majority of cases a huge hardware advantage up against console players. These PC players will have an overall smoother game, higher frame rates by sometimes 100 fps, less latency, and in some cases less ping. Try and explain how that is a solution to a problem. Jackfrags also done a video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJHHbC6O7DU) on this showing the massive aim assist that you gain if you are a PC player using a controller.
Sure you can argue that ultra wides also give a similar advantage but again, we are talking specifically about input methods I don't know why you keep bringing this up. It's like you're running out of things to compare with.
If game developers choose to allow console players to use Keyboard and mouse then great for them. Does not change my stance on if I still think it is cheating or not. And I can comfortably assume that this is also the stance on probably 80% of the console gaming population. It's not enjoyable sneaking up on someone then being turnt around on in 0.1 seconds when it takes you 1 second to perform the same manoeuvre. Thats just one example of numerous different occasions where there is a huge disadvantage for controller users coming up against keyboard and mouse users.

@SF-TebagginsNo Battlefield is not a competitive game, its a MP sandbox, the developer sais so themselves. There are no ways in the game to view leaderboards or a competitive matchmaking system like CSGO, Siege or even Fortnite where you have Social and Competitive matchmaking. BF relies on third party websites to check your in depth stats. And there are no official Tournaments.
Heck even Fortninte have their own tournaments and still allow crossplay in their Social games. And yes i´ve watched Jacks video, and Stodehs and I still think input based matchmaking should be there. That´s the players choice. Different hardware, ping, screens and all that is allways a problem on PC that will never be an even playing field. I would be happy to get 30-40 FPS in BF2042 and that puts me in an dissadvantage against players with high end PC. That´s why competitive games have tournaments where all players use the same PC setup.
If you are a console player and only want to play against controller users then do that. Halo lets you choose to only play against players with controller if you want, NO one is forcing you to play against mouse and keyboard players. Halo also prevents you from switching between inputs while ingame, you cannot cheat the system by switching mid-game, you have to restart the game to switch inputs.
If I want to play on console with mouse and keyboard I would have no problem going up against PC players, thats to be expected if I want to use a mouse and keyboard in my view, its about player choice. And as mentioned above, how about steering wheels for racing games and joysticks for flying games, is that cheating too?
Racing games are best played with steering wheels, flying games with joysticks and FPS games with mouse and keyboard, its only fair that all plattforms should be able to play games with the best input suited for their games.
