We could also previously turn small cities/village buildings into large piles of rubble. This is 2042 and we want to make things go BOOM !
@CyberDyme DICE has gone back and forth on destruction over the years since BC2. They dialed it back in BF3/4 since they didn't like the effect that flattening entire sectors had on game play which is one reason they they added the fortification system in BF5 when they returned to the sector flattening in BF1/5. Now it seems that they've returned to the BF3 specific era of destruction but haven't stated if it was a conscious decision based on game play effects or if it's based on accommodating consoles now that we've doubled the player count and enlarged the maps. It would be nice to know which was the impetus.
@ragnarok013Same. I would like to know the reasoning here, although I suspect it is as you said and perhaps increased demands on video memory to make those kind of "permanent" changes on maps this large...
I would say they could have at least included the aesthetic and interactive aspects of destroying building facades and crushing infantry and whatnot like we had in the recent games.
I mean, at least put a nice spalled hole from a Sabot shot on the side of that Assembly Building if we cannot take it apart...

I recall on maps like the Siege of Shanghai, there were many other buildings where we could drive a tank through the groundfloor level or through the shops in the mall areas. Some of the fortified walls could not be run down, others could. So infantry and the vehicles still had plenty of hiding areas and strategic maneuvering to do, to fight out the fun battle.
Same as well on maps like Lancang Dam and Zavod.311. So plenty of semi-destructible building structures there.
That all buildings and all walls right now just stands like nothing hit them in BF2042 is not entertaining or strategic game inspiring.
