Will the Beta be a game changer

We are all hyped about getting to this BF2042 Beta.

No dates confirmed yet from EA, but fair to say it needs to happen within next few weeks to stay on final release plan. The silence from EA has added to the speculations and hype. Hope it will not backfire...

But will this beta dictate your opinion or have you already bought the full package no matter? I did that for both BF1 and BFV, but left both of them after short while, highly disappointed. To me this next one will determine if I see the BF franchise rebound from the edge or it will plummet into becoming obsolete.

This is the first modern day shooter from EA for 8+ years. For us dedicated BFBC/BF3/BF4 veterans, think this is last chance to keep us around, as more alternatives are out there than ever before. And personally I am not going to wait around for more years for giving them a 4th chance to get it right.

So where are we today:

The BF2042 reveal trailer was great, classic modern gameplay showed, the Portal, etc. I liked it!

But will we get it all working in the final game? Been burned plenty before by EA on this, latest Firestorm, anybody...

Now we had the secret Technical Playtesting, that despite NDAs got leaked all over the place. Some aspects looked great, but it was far from being release ready. At best it was at 30 FPS, plenty of crashes and bugs. And the Playstation component didnt even make it to the playtest. Lets seriously hope it was an old game build, despite data miners have identified the compile was made just a few days before.

Personally I had expected a big BF2042 show from EA at Gamescom. Both BF1 and BFV made it big time there. BFV was full of bugs at launch, but we still played it live at Gamescom! EA have said nothing why BF2042 had nothing at Gamescom. Nothing from EA and nothing from any of their franchise industry partners. So what does that tell us? An even worse state than BFV? I start to fear the worst.

Only remaining between now and the full launch is the beta. It will be open to the public. And opinions no longer under NDA. Judgement day!

From September to October they wont have time for big changes anymore.

BF1 probably had the best launch of any BF games. BF3/BF4 were buggy as hell. But the gameplay was great fun and the weapon balances etc could be fixed. BFV was also buggy as hell but the gameplay was not much lasting fun. Poor game design from launch made many drop it after short time. Bugs are annoying but can get fixed. Poor game design cannot and that decide our gaming experience and the 'stickiness' of the game (it's longevity).

This next modern shooter is EA's golden opportunity to capture back recent years lost market share and add back to their BF fan base.

Fingers crossed that it will be a huge success!

@CyberDyme Hi,
not anymore (beta will be a game changer) because on Battlefield V there was so many changes specially on ttk as soon I get used to a few settings I had to re-organized everything again and again and again... it was annoying. When I think about the Bugs, well I reported a few bugs while I could report more when it would be easier specially as console user I had to many things re-edit or delete because the developers don't need to know which graphic card I am using when I am on console, as also on which time the bug happens where I have first to search the right timezone... in a short way reporting bugs is very uncomfortable for console users.
There are many more points I could complain about but I will see how many "connection" issues I will get in case of overused servers/ how many "critical error's" I get because an effect cause the game to crash/a memory path is invalid and so on... and how easy it will be to play with friends and platoon members again.
The beta does reflect the final game status so I will see how the overall experience is and decide on this if I will keep the pre order or cancel it.

I'm basing everything on the beta. The game will be 99% done when the beta launches, so what you see in the beta is what you'll get in the retail version.
That said I really enjoyed the alpha and I'm looking forward to the beta!

I've made up my mind regardless and have preordered it. I played in the playtest and had a lot of fun despite all the bugs. So I'm pretty confident that I'll enjoy the full game.
The only thing for me that could ruin the game is hackers and you won't be able to tell anything about them from the beta.

I know of a lot of players who didn't get into the WW scene, hopefully the beta is good enough to bring over those back to Battlefield™ or indeed over from 4.
That said, the beta needs to be better than good. After the controversy over V, the fact that the last 2 games have been WW themed, the poor state of 4's release and a long string of games that have released and flopped [looking at you Cyberplop2077] - it needs to work and work well.
They say that Portal is a love letter to fans, the base game will include "cutting-edge arsenal and a never-before-seen theatre of war". A well worded marketing campaign does not mean anything, especially if the game is not released as described.
Yes. The build up to exodus was a novel way to introduce the cinematic short. How the OG bf4 characters were intertwined into the story was innovative (especially as I have only recently got round to finishing that campaign).
All this is hype building, then........
There's leaked beta gameplay which didn't look as good as I thought it would be, considering we're so close to launch. [I know it was an old build but I didn't get a good feeling in terms of map design and layout]. Not that this was the only reason for my concern as the PS5 playtest was cancelled, a no show at gamescom, no beta date, a sense of silence from the Devs at this particular point in development. All of these factors, as well as being burnt on too many occasions now. Those who preordered V and got hardly anything for their extra £. Outriders, Avengers, Hood, dungeons & dragons that one with the alien dude, heck - even Cyberplop2077. All games that could and should have been executed better than they were.
This moment right here is the defining one. The beta needs to be of a decent standard or it will not entice players back in October - end of. They need to start building that hype back up. It is a perfect opportunity for DICE to drop that mic and deliver.

@CyberDyme the beta has to hook me. I am not waiting for BF2042 to be completed after I pay my money especially when they are talking about a new BF every 2 years. It needs to work out the box and the beta is always 95% the game we get...always

@CyberDymeprobably not.

Will it be a decent game? I'll play the beta and see. If the game is bad, portal has the potential to save it, I guess. But I really don't know so far.
Also, it pains me that you mention veterans and don't go back earlier than BF3 and BFC2.

@CyberDyme For me personally the Beta may not very decisive, since BF2042 is part of the EA Play Pro subscription. But I expect a lot of people from the community I play with will put the game to a test.

I wonder how many people are like me, that mainly wish that the All-Out Warfare part of the game will play like a modernized version BF3/BF4. Looking forward to some amazing team play, but worried that the concept for the whole game might be designed around a squad centered mode that we don't know much about yet.

The most important part of the Beta for me is, that everyone gets a glimpse of the vision DICE has, and then decide if there is an intersection big enough with ones own expectations. And I hope that this time it will be more than a hand full friends that want to play the game.

The beta will decide whether or not I will buy it because I still don't know if my computer will even run it.

@CyberDyme after all the games in past 2 years that were released (too soon) I never get hyped that much anymore.I will play beta and decide if I stick to it or refund and wait for a sale in a month.

I am more worried about cheaters, which BF5 had tons of them. That would be a gamebreaker.
