Battlefield 2042 - < 5 FPS on High Performance Hardware

During normal gameplay, across all game-modes and maps, Battlefield 2042 will often drop as low 1 to 2 FPS in game for several seconds. The issue occurs approximately every 10 seconds, and occurs for roughly 5 seconds, then returns to normal FPS. When the issue occurs, the Task Manager reports that my CPU and GPU usage drop to remarkably low %, then return to the expected load when the game speed returns to normal.

This issue has persisted across multiple Windows installations on my hardware, multiple patches and updates to Battlefield 2042, as well as multiple updates to my video card and AMD CPU drivers. I even replaced my SSD. I reached out to EA support and the suggestion was to post on the forum. A video demonstration of the issue can be found below.

Any troubleshooting advice is appreciated

@X-RayCAS it could be gpu driver related or gpu control panel settings/configuration !
There is now a new nvidia driver 531.29, you could try this one and reconnect hardware , one by one and test game (reboot everytime) , to see what causes the issue !

keep us up to date please.
    Cheers
  • The problem has returned again today, even with my additional monitors disconnected. I tried making some changes in the NVidia Control Panel to no avail.

I've checked my CPU overclock in my BIOS and it's current set to "Auto". The only other option is "Manual" and then I must set a clock speed and voltage. I'm not familiar enough with my current CPU to know what to specify so I left the overclock on Auto.

I'm at a loss as to what to do.

@X-RayCAS In bios you could select to LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULKTS, then do SAVE AND EXIT

Now try again and see if games run !
    Cheers
  • Selecting "Defaults" resets the overclocking to "Auto".

After much frustration, I decided to uninstall this game and stop playing. Today I downloaded StarWars Battlefront II (2017) and played that, and experienced the exact same issue. StarWars Battlefront II is the only other game I own through the EA App, and both StarWars Battlefront II and Battlefield 2042 experience the same issue. It seems the issue is exclusive to games installed through the EA app. I tried disabling the In-Game overlay in the EA App to see if that changed things but it did not. I am not sure why games launched through the EA App have this behavior. Is it possible to reinstall Origin? Does Origin exist anymore?
