Battlefield 2042 keeps crashing my computer

Hey all,

Need some help.  Got an BF update on Wednesday and since then cannot play BF.  Start Battlefield 2042 and game starts fine, go to conquest choose size, map begins to load.  Wait about 3-4 seconds and sound studders and computer reboots.  Never happened before update, doesn't happen anytime on any other program, computer runs fine.

Cleared Cache

DXDiag states all is good - attached for kicks but all looks good

Crashdump file - don't understand but doesn't seem to be telling me much - typical INVALID_POINTER_WRITE_C0000005

NVIDEA drivers are up to date

Computer Drivers are up to date

Computer has latest windows and updated drivers

Did a clean boot, restarted and game was playable but stepped away and it went back to join game screen because I was away for a bit, went to rejoin game and as soon as map started to load, crash.  This is not a crash to desktop this is a crash/reboot.  Game is unplayable after the last update.

As I stated, can get into game, can let game run at the join a game screen with my character waiting, soon as the map starts to load thats when it happens.

Temps are fine.

I'd list my hardware but its in the DxDiag.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

  • Your computer is having a blue screen, what we call BSOD. EA anti-cheat is the culprit right now. Me and many other people are getting the same problem. In the even viewer (windows 10 and 11) it shows that EAAC is responsible for crashing the pc. It is trying to access restricted resources so the computer shuts down. For now, EA will deny any claim that BF2042 (also BFV) are having these problems. They will answer the same bull "Have you updated drivers.., reinstalled the game.., blabla blabla".

  • @Fortunete11er It can be any hardware/software config at youre system.
Did ya scan ya pc (drives and windows system for any errors?)

    Do this:
Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
Use the following command lines, pressing Enter after each
(make sure you wait till each of the commands is executed properly):

    sfc /scannow
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Now reboot system , and do once more this: (check if any error popsup at the end)
Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD
Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.
Use the following command line, pressing Enter after each

    sfc /scannow

No more error , check if game is running without BSOD.
Still BSOD, then lets do a CLEANBOOT, to check if any software is causing issues, do this:
reboot pc by a clean boot:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-da2f9573-6eec-00ad-2f8a-a97a1807f3dd
Hide all Microsoft services, DISABLE (uncheck) ALL other processes, apps and services !

I suggest doing a clean boot first to isolate and identify the application that is causing the issue.

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    - In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.

    - On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.

    - On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.

    - Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.

    - Close Task Manager.

    - On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Do not deactivate ea app background process and the EA AC process, else game will not launch at all.
Test game and update us please !
  • So I will try these recommendations in order, I've done most of them.  But I don't get a BSOD, it actually crashes the computer to reboot.  During map load 1, 2, 3, seconds then Boom, reboot.

Try disabling XMP in bios. Usually computer reboots are due to RAM memory errors due to XMP overclocking. Sometimes XMP also overclocks the CPU which causes instability also.

I had the same problem for days. I tried everything short of a new windows install. This is what worked for me.

    navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 2042

    You will see this:

    preloader_l.dll_b

    EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.dll_b

    EAAntiCheat.GameServiceLauncher.exe_b

Rename each and remove "_b " from the extension

    Then select all

    Go to properties

Set each file to read only

I couldn't find a fix anywhere not even from Dice/Ea. I hope this helps someone out there. Cheers
