@LeadM4gnet A fresh new windows install could solve it indeed.
Windows get cluttered with all kind of software , registry keys , temp files, ect ect ect and could get in an error.
There are many tools to cleanup system , but can also do more harm to the system <- becarefull with 3rd party cleanup tools.
A fresh install will make system faster and stabel. Only install thats needed for the system.
Then install game(s) and test it !
I always do a fresh , new windows install every +/- year , to keep it all speedy , stable and clean 😉
Cheers

Hey, man! Happy New Year to you, brother!
I've been away from this problem for a long time but I finally had time to do that fresh Windows install and I wanted to keep my promise to let you know how it turned out.
TBH it took way longer than I thought it would because it didn't sit well with my HP when I tried the new install. I had to troubleshoot some issues before it would finally install. Tonight I got around to reinstalling BF V AND IT RUNS! I'm finally back in the fight.
Many thanks for your help when I was at my wits end with this thing -- I still don't know what the problem was -- but tomorrow I'll try reinstalling BF1 and see if that runs, then if it does, BF 2042.
Thanks again, and have a blessed year, my friend!
