BF2042 AntiCheat process blocking program download from EA App

After the recent updates to Windows 11 - Battlefield 2042 was stuck on the Anti Cheat screen for literally 40 minutes - I checked the forums and also repaired the In-Game.

Still after a restart the EA Anti Cheat would pop up and open several processes (Task Manager overview) So I decided to delete the game and re-install again.

Now the damn thing is taking hours to download.

Before you ask - this is a Top Spec PC with the latest Intel i9 chip, 64GB Memory with M2 SSDs (3TB) my internet connection is a 300Mbit download with 100Mbit upload.

Steam has no issues with the games I upload there and play.

Only using this crap EA App launcher it basically does not use the resources available.

I followed many post suggestions from limit the bandwidth,

Re-install (but the download is dead slow)

Cannot repair as it is still stuck on this crap EA Anti-Cheat process.

Network speed fix

Open Windows PowerShell as an admin, and run this code:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

If you're done downloading and want to return the setting to their original state, run this code:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Reset the EA Cache - no effect

Complete delete and cleanup of the registry - done no effect

Re-installing with the new EA App version - downloading at 3% - speed 66KB/s

DSL Speed check  322.2Mb/s download  with 59.8MB/s upload

LAN configuration check - no issues

Windows Defender/AVG firewall allows EA Apps through.

Any other thoughts ?

  • @kendomaster Reboot router/modem (or just disconnect powerline for about 1 minute).

Press Windows key + 'R' ,typ CMD, Press and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and press ENTER.
When User Account Control shows up, click Yes.

copy and paste the following commands by pressing enter at the end of each command line:

    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    netsh advfirewall reset
    netsh winhttp reset proxy
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /flushdns

This will reset also firewall settings (when ya start an app that needs network, a firewall windows will popup (after some seconds) and ya need to grant acces again).
Bf2042 and EA AC will need firewall acces, make sure ya start game platform as an administrator.

If your network got some specific network settings , those will also be reset (undone)/

    Keep us uptodate !

    Cheers

What a star ! not only did it fix the download issue but also sped up the download time, I thought it was enough to disable defender just to isolate the issue but it seems the flushing and UAC did the trick !

    Kudos to your Sir !

  • @Rokebo73 crap spoke to soon.

Tried starting the game and it runs like a dog with the Anti Cheat screen first - if I check the program manager there are 11 processes running (2 anti cheat)

Just looking at the main anti cheat splash screen watching the progress bar periodically move.

    @kendomaster  did reboot router/modem ?
    Post dxdiag please !
What country are ya in ?

    cheers

ps Only EA AC is an issue ?

  • @Rokebo73

dxduag is not the issue for sure , I ran it on all my new games in the past and gave NVIDIA  GeForce 3080Ti  top spec card.

I checked PC logs as it is only the EA App with this issue.

the strange thing is that your solution  solved the download speed on the EA App download and install and drastically improved the download of 2042. It would seem that the EA Anti Cheat program is causing this as normally it runs within seconds and starts up the intro to the game. Instarted the game up with Admin priv - no effect, shutdown the Firewall completely still no effect. Tested with Steam and getting 329 Mb/s download and all games run quick.
Stopped all gaming processes and just left EA Anti Cheat Splash screen running , no update in 20 minutes. I will research further.
But anymore great ideas would be good to hear !

well with all the cheaters flooding the game these past christmas holiday sale.

  • @Rokebo73 well here is a new one for you.

Two issues were occurring on my PC - one I really only observed when I changed the EAC to notify me of all permission changes instead of if a program changes,

so I finally had seen that the EA Anti Cheat was asking permission, so I select OK and the program was getting faster.

The other observation was that EA claim the EA App automatically searches and updates to the latest version, well this is where the other problem was occurring.

If you run the EA App update exe as Administrator it see's a newer version than the one I had installed.

Though OK delete everything again and start from scratch now I have the latest App Build  from 17.01.2025 and everything works now, EA Anti Cheat runs within 3 seconds which is what I expected, not 25 minutes and just hangs.

    Game runs fast now.

Again kudos to you ! Hopefully the EA App will not do another update and screw it up again.

@kendomaster Its possible there are some Rights issues with folders and/or files.
Make sure ya run SFC / SCANNOW coomand in an elevated commandprompt (<<-- as administrator)

Also make sure there arent any issues with your drive , bad sectors/clusters, or just end of lifetime for drive ? Heat issues? ect ect

But i think that if problem is solved, ya wont get any issues (ea ac) anymore (lets hope hahaha).

Have Fun , Game On !!

    Cheers 😉
