[Bug] System freeze (~1s) during Battlefield 2042 launch

Hi,

Since May 3, 2025, I’ve been experiencing a consistent system freeze (~1 second) every time I launch Battlefield 2042, specifically during the loading of the main menu. The freeze is also accompanied by a short crackling sound (“trrrrr”).

This issue did not happen before — for example, the game ran smoothly on April 26. I later discovered that the file EAAntiCheat.GameService.dll was modified on April 29, 2025. I suspect this issue may be related to the latest EA AntiCheat update.

System info:

Battlefield 2042 (Steam, EA App)

Windows 11 24H2 (build 26100.3775)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060 (driver 576.28, also tested 576.02)

Ram: 32gb 3200mhz

Additional:

LatencyMon reports DPC latency spikes from nvlddmkm.sys and Wdf01000.sys around the time of the freeze.

bf2042.exe causes over 62,000 hard pagefaults on launch.

EA Support has acknowledged this and confirmed they’ve escalated the bug report to the game team.

If anyone is experiencing the same issue — please reply or upvote so it gets more visibility.

Thanks!

All I can say now, is that fix is coming and is being slowly implemented to older games. BF2042 has already received an update and now works flawlessly.

You'll have to wait some time though, as there is no ETA on when this fix is going to be released for BFV and 1.

  • Yes, I also encountered this problem; upon entering the loading screen, the computer gets stuck, and the game cannot be played, so I can only restart the computer.

I can confirm that this issue started around the time EA shipped their updated EA Javelin AC libraries, which was 29th of April, I believe.

Essentially what happens, is that the kernel driver loads up half a minute after launching the game resulting in a 250ms system interrupt, which is usually indicative that the driver is having issues loading certain functions to memory. System promptly freezes and resumes work soon after. This issue is NOT caused by the Hardware-based Kernel Stack Protection, as some people touted it to be the sole cause of the problem. It happens on both Windows 11 and 10.

Have tried different things to alleviate the issue, from reinstalling the anticheat (repairing it as well), to reinstalling the game outright to no avail.

The issue doesn't seem to affect other EA AC-supported games like FC25, Battlefield V or 1.
