CPU and CPUs multiple overheating with Battlefield 2042

Does anyone have a fix for this ridiculous CPU overheating issue in this game or are paying players just SOL?

i9 10920X (EVGA CLC 360MM AIO) with a RTX 3080Ti and i7 10700KF (EVGA CLC 280MM AIO) with a 1080Ti, i7 6850K (Kraken X73 CLC 360MM AIO) with 7900XT,  (nothing overclocked) and i7 920@3.8Ghz (Hyper 212 EVO) with 980Ti systems are all overheating with this game. I'm guessing either really horrible testing by game devs; some sort of always on DRM thrashing the cpus like with AC Origins via Denuvo, but if anyone has a fix would really like to actually play without fear of blowing up my systems.

Only thing running is the game, AIO sftware, and hwmonitor or openhw monitor; like I said this ONLY occurs with BF 2042.

I can run any other game (including Cyberpunk 2077, ArmA 3, AC Valhalla, Ghost Recon Wildlands, HALO Infinite, WH 40K: Dark Tide, GTA V, CoD Warzones 2.0) for hours with temps maxing out at 78C on my i9 10920X@stock settings with XMP on 360mm AIO, 75C on my i7 10700KF@stock/XMP/280mm AIO vs 88C with BF 2042, 78C vs 89C on my i7 920@3.842Ghz RAM@1444Mhz with Hyper212 EVO. Cycling GPUs not much effect; Nvidia or AMD no real difference.

Battlefield uses AVX which causes high CPU temperatures. The processor frequency will downclock if an AVX offset is set in the motherboard's bios.

That's why there's an AVX offset in bios to auto downclock CPUs and keep them from overheating when AVX is in use.

  • How do you set a proper offset for Battlefield 2042? I have a ROG Z690 Maximus Hero and when I go to the AVX offset settings it says User defined.....

@BearWitness79 got high temps ? may maunal downgrade turbo (mhz settings for about 200mhz)
Ya could also downgrade vcore (fixed vcore settings at 1.29 <-- check for motherboard/cpu settings first).

Temps will go down by +/- 10/15

    Cheers

ps make sure youre fans/aio is doing his job, some system are able to run at PERFORMANCE mode.
Check if youre system support this to !!!
  • I have a 4080 super and things are much cooler now than before with my 3080ti.  Battlefield uses a lot of resources. So, unless you have a semi beefy system. It's best to not put graphic on ultra. Keep it at med to high. Lower any setting that that use a lot of power. It can be your vents are dirty, fans are getting old and slow, a new more powerful power supply needed, and depending on location where you're pc is setup at can make the difference. I have coolmaster case. I find removing the cover that protects the three fans gets much better ventilation than with it on. The temperature drops by 6 celcus or more. Tells me something about my cases design. Now I have 8 fans. One large fan drawing air from the backside. Took from a Honda civic and converted it for pc.The others are all 120mm. Now the case is a wind mill and my case and components never go higher then 44 celcus.

I have a well-ventilated Lian Li case with 10 SL120 fans and a ROG Ryujin 360 AIO cooler for my Intel i7-13700K.

For context, I play all sorts of games at max settings, and my CPU temps never exceed 62°C. However, with Battlefield 2042, my temps spike to 75-80°C. This seems abnormal, and I’m convinced it’s an issue specific to this game.

Does anyone have any workarounds that don’t involve downclocking the CPU? My CPU is currently running at stock settings.

@lgfpf  depends on what system specs ya got.
Post dxdiag , also dont forget that 13th gen is running hot straight out of the box with games as bf2042.
What temps are in youre envoriment at this moment ? Do ya set manual rpm for fans ?
If ya are on an ASUS board , then ya probarly need to do an bios update for the INTEL settings so voltages, watts and ampere arent set to "unlimited" for the 13th and 14th gen CPU's. <-- bad cpu batches , high temps , ect ect , check youtube for Gamers Nexus, Jayztwocents and Wendel tech1 about this worldwide issue 😉

    Update us please ! Cheers

ps Intel is planning an microcode update for those cpu's , that will be related in platform brand bios updates +/- half august
