I’m in the western North America region using Xbox Series X and have been having a very bad experience because I cannot find a game when I turn off crossplay. This was an issue at launch and is still an issue today as of the 3.1 update.
I have heard that many, many other Xbox Series X/S and PS5 users are also having the same problem. Some regions report better results, but my region is absolutely broken.
I can’t say for sure why, but it seems to be because crossplay is enabled by default. Because of that, the game can only find others who have opted out of crossplay and that was a very big problem for Xbox players until recently when it was mandatory for a person who wished to turn off crossplay, had to go into their Xbox console settings and turn it off on a global level which in turn affected every game, not just Battlefield 2042. Dice has recently made it easier for Xbox players to now turn off crossplay as of the 3.1 update by simply using the in-game settings but the problem of finding a game still remains because it seems to be dependent on many other players also turning off crossplay.
Console players like myself, who like to play competitively should not be playing with mouse and keyboard inputs. It’s inherently wrong to mix multiple platforms on a more competitive level. It’s also not fun when you’re more than just a casual player and truly see the disadvantage of using a controller vs mouse and keyboard. I’m not going to get into the specifics of why mouse and keyboard is advantageous over controllers but if you look at the statistics between the two inputs when it comes to kills and top player performance I think it would be clear that one dominates the other.
Furthemore, although I think crossplay should be “off” as a default for all players, I only mean to say controller players don’t want to go up against mouse and keyboard. The adjustments can also be refined to at least make the default option be that both consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S still match together but just not PC. Or handle it in a way that matchmaking is input based and it the game only matches players who use the same input type. As you can see there are a few ways to handle this.
As it stands right now I don’t even want to play because I feel alienated because I chose to buy a console, I did not choose to buy a PC. I want an experience that is fair and since turning crossplay off right now is not solving the fairness problem, I feel like my experience is very poor. And it is in fact broken when I turn crossplay off and can’t get into a game.
