DirectX function errors

Hello,

Every since the last Nvidia updates (mid-March) and latest BF2042 updates, the game is almost unplayable.

I get DirectX crashes almost everytime I run the game at boot, or when connecting to a game, or if I'm lucky, a few minutes into a match.

My PC specs are:

  • ROG Z790 Maximus Extreme
  • i9 13900K
  • ROG Strix 4090 OC
  • Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 64gb (16x4)
  • ROG Thor 1200w PSU
  • Windows 11 Pro

The error messages are DirectX related and either are out of memory or drivers crashing.

I have tried the following:

  • Clean Windows installation
  • Completely wiped out SSDs
  • Bought a new SSD and installed the game on it.
  • Replaced GPU
  • Rolled back to previous drivers after using DDU (tried every driver available all the way back to December 2022)
  • Verified the game files in Steam
  • Deleted the Documents folder for BF2042
  • Enabled/Disabled GstRender.Dx12Enabled in the settings file.
  • Updated GPU firmware.
  • Turned off DLSS
  • Stress tested GPU - no crashes or abnormal temps.
  • Trying manually install DirectX12.

90% of the time, the game crashes, the rest of the time I can play a smooth game with no crashes at all or strange graphical artifacts in the game.

I have attached the error messages.

A game with a reputation like Battlefield's, coming from a company like EA and Dice should have proper testing, support, and releases. This is very disappointing. The game was stable a few updates back, now it is barely "loadable" let alone playable.

I hope someone gets in touch to resolve this - I'll provide whatever logs and tests needed.
