Have you had any luck solving that issue ? Im facing it now
Found the fix. First go to your EA play account and go to the upper left to the 3 lines and open, hit help and go to reset app. Once you are back to the EA screen if it doesn't show your friends, close the app and reboot your computer. This somehow resets everything and if the names show on the right side of the EA app when opened your problem to open games is solved.
