Game crash to desktop in spawnscreen

Hi!

My game crashes as soon as I get into the spawnscreen after joining a server (meaning I can't play at all).

All other games works fine, including BFV, Darktide, Valheim etc.

My setup:

OS: Windows 10

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X

GPU: 3070 Ti Rog Strix

RAM: G-skill 2x16bg @3600 Mhz (also didn't work with another pair of RAM - DOCP ON and OFF for both pairs)

MOBO: B550-F Rog Strix

PSU: 850W Corsair

Temps are fine (sub 75° C MAX for both CPU and GPU under load)

System/Drivers:

- Windows is up to date (fresh install)

- BIOS is up-to-date

- Graphic drivers are up-to-date (reinstalled before and after windows re-install)

Troubleshooting so far:

- I have turned PBO and XMP on and off to eliminate instabillity.

Also GPU is not overclocked (in a desperate atempt I tried undervolting the card, no change)

- Repaired gamefiles, un-installed and re-installed game.

- Re-installed windows (+ game ofcourse).

- I have fiddled with different settings in-game - no success.

- Tried older driver - crashed in menu instead so worse result

- Tried both Origin and EA app - no change

-  ALL other apps closed, overlays in Origin/EA ON and OFF - still the same crash

- Run game as Administrator and all other "quick-fixes" suggested here and on other sites - no cookie!

- Changed RAM-kit

In some scenarios it shuts down to desktop - without error.

Other times it shuts down showing the attached DirectX-error.

Always crashes as soon as I can click on spawn icon and see others pop up on the overview.

I've tried all but un-install and trying to forget this game exists, please advice!

  • @Rokebo73 Sooo, I bought a new RAM-kit today.

However! Before changing them, I updated to the newest Nvidia driver (released today) and now it finally works!

So, turns out to be somekind of driver problem (even thou BF2042 is not specifically mentioned in release note).

So now I will return the new kit and start playing the game 🙂

Thanks for your support anyhow, appreciate it alot! <3

  • Hi @Rokebo73 and thanks for quick reply!

No, the game worked fine for 2-3 month or so. Then after a 1-2 week break it wouldn't work.

I changed my CPU from a 3700x and 5800x in between, might have something to do with that?

I changed RAM yesterday because the new CPU wouldn't work with my old RAM on full speed.

I have done these steps before following your advice in other thread. But did it again anyway with no luck.

Since I don't really know what these command do, I will just post the results:

    sfc/scannow
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    No component store corruption detected.
    The operation completed successfully.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
[==========================100.0%==========================] No component store corruption detected.
    The operation completed successfully.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
    The operation completed successfully.

    See memory details attached.

  • @Rokebo73 I use the B550-F strix from ASUS.

I am aware that these memorystick ain't on the QVL for the MOBO if thats what you are thinking, but they are tested by G.skill on this particular board with 5000-series Ryzen.

    http://www.gskill.com/product/165/326/1562840211/F4-3600C16D-32GTZNCTrident-Z-NeoDDR4-3600MHz-CL16-19-19-39-1.35V32GB-(2x16GB)

I know that's not a guarantee for compatibity, however since every other application and game is stable with DOCP profile ON or OFF I have a hard time accepting the memory is at fault. I want to test everything else first, since I've read people have experienced wierd behaivour of late in this particular title.

If there is no more fixes or none of them works I will buy the cheapest set of RAM on ASUS QVL for further troubleshooting (not eazy finding memory from the QVL where I live).

    @aldenbring92  ah yes indeed.
memory thats not in QVL can cause issues in software as BF2042 for example!
Even if ya did test each ram module apart from each other with an memory test utility without errors, still can be faulty in software use !
Google for it , and check how often people with incompatible memroy get errors in software while those utility do not show any error !

sell youre old ram , and buy compatible fast (max Mhz) ram again !
Even ssd, nvme, cdrom/dvd, sometimes GPU are in a QVL those days.
Also dont forget to use the latest bios version and flash all other hardware (if possible) ssd, nvme, keyboard, headset ect ect ect for best compatibility !

Cheers! hope you get it fixed soon, let us know what happend after ya did set new Ram !!!
