Try validating your game files on steam. I had the same issue and when I checked mine I was missing 4 of the files from update 3 about 6 mb. That seemed to fix it for me

@3XsPiRavi7 Rolled back GPU driver fixed my issue. Seems like my latest Nvidia driver was causing the problem.

For me it was a complete uninstall of Origin and BF2042, and then a manual wipe of Easy Anti Cheat and any Origin/BF2042 in program data, I also started using EA Play as someone else suggested that. Maybe there is a conflict with drivers, but a reinstall allows you to use the latest.
